Job Description:
The OT Nurse, or Operating Theatre Nurse, plays a critical role in the surgical team by providing high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. The nurse will be responsible for preparing the operating room, ensuring all necessary instruments and equipment are sterile and ready for use, and assisting the surgical team during procedures. The OT Nurse must monitor patients' vital signs, maintain a safe and sterile environment, and provide post-operative care as needed. Strong communication skills are essential for collaborating with surgeons, anesthetists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare the operating room and ensure all supplies and equipment are sterile and ready for use.
- Assist the surgical team by passing instruments and materials during procedures.
- Monitor patients' vital signs and maintain a sterile environment throughout the operation.
- Provide post-operative care, including monitoring recovery and assisting patients as needed.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Document all necessary information related to patient care and surgical procedures in medical records.
Skills and Tools Required:
- Bachelor?s degree in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing) or equivalent qualification.
- Valid nursing license and certification in Operating Theatre Nursing is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and aseptic techniques.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients and the surgical team.
- Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations.
- Proficiency in using medical equipment and technology relevant to the operating room, including monitoring systems and surgical instruments.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and ensure patient safety.
- Experience in a surgical or operating room setting is an advantage.
