Job Summary
A Bakery Chef is responsible for preparing, baking, and presenting a variety of baked goods such as breads, pastries, cakes, and desserts. They ensure high-quality standards, maintain kitchen safety, and may supervise bakery staff in commercial kitchens, hotels, restaurants, or retail bakeries.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and bake breads, cakes, pastries, cookies, and specialty desserts
- Develop and test new recipes
- Decorate cakes and pastries according to customer or business requirements
- Measure and mix ingredients accurately
- Monitor oven temperatures and baking times
- Ensure food quality, freshness, and presentation standards
- Maintain cleanliness and comply with food safety regulations
- Manage inventory and order baking supplies
- Train and supervise junior bakers or kitchen assistants
- Handle customer orders and custom cake requests (if retail-based)
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Proven experience as a baker or pastry chef
- Knowledge of baking techniques, ingredients, and equipment
- Creativity and attention to detail
- Strong time-management skills
- Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays
- Understanding of food safety and sanitation standards
- Physical stamina to stand for long hours
Education (optional but preferred):
- Culinary arts diploma or pastry certification
- Apprenticeship training in a bakery or hotel kitchen
