Job Summary
The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality of Vertical Machining Center (VMC) machines throughout the manufacturing, assembly, testing, and final inspection processes. The role involves inspecting mechanical and electrical assemblies, verifying machine geometry and electrical systems, ensuring compliance with quality standards, conducting root cause analysis, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives to deliver defect-free machines.
Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical Quality
- Inspect mechanical assembly of VMC machines according to engineering drawings and quality standards.
- Verify installation and alignment of machine base, column, saddle, table, spindle head, guideways, and ball screws.
- Check machine geometry, alignment, and accuracy using precision measuring instruments.
- Inspect spindle runout, backlash, perpendicularity, parallelism, and positioning accuracy.
- Verify lubrication, hydraulic, pneumatic, coolant, and chip conveyor systems.
- Monitor assembly quality and identify non-conformities during production.
Electrical Quality
- Inspect electrical panel assembly and machine wiring as per electrical schematics.
- Verify wiring of CNC controllers, servo drives, spindle drives, PLC I/O, sensors, encoders, and safety circuits.
- Ensure proper cable routing, labeling, grounding, and electrical protection.
- Conduct continuity, insulation resistance, grounding, and functional electrical inspections.
- Verify operation of limit switches, proximity sensors, emergency stop circuits, door interlocks, and safety devices.
Machine Testing & Validation
- Witness machine power-up and functional testing.
- Verify CNC machine functions, axis movement, spindle operation, ATC operation, coolant system, lubrication system, and safety interlocks.
- Conduct machine acceptance inspections before dispatch.
- Support machine trial cutting and accuracy validation.
- Ensure compliance with customer specifications and internal quality standards.
Quality Assurance
- Prepare and maintain inspection reports, quality records, and non-conformance reports (NCRs).
- Perform root cause analysis using 5 Why, Fishbone Diagram, or similar quality tools.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
- Monitor quality KPIs and recommend improvements.
- Coordinate with design, production, assembly, purchase, and service departments to resolve quality issues.
- Participate in supplier quality inspections and incoming material verification.
- Support customer audits and internal quality audits.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
- 5 years of experience in quality assurance or quality control within VMC/CNC machine manufacturing or machine tool industries.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of VMC machine construction and assembly.
- Knowledge of mechanical inspection techniques and machine tool geometry.
- Experience with electrical panel inspection and industrial machine wiring.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and GD&T.
- Familiarity with CNC control systems such as Fanuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi, or Syntec.
- Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic, lubrication, and coolant systems.
- Experience with quality tools such as FMEA, SPC, MSA, CAPA, 5 Why, and Fishbone Analysis.
- Understanding of ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems and documentation.
- Knowledge of machine acceptance standards and inspection procedures.
