Product Manager – Research Compliance

The Product Management function is responsible for defining, prioritizing, and guiding product initiatives across the company’s product portfolio. Product Managers work across multiple products, business areas, and stakeholder groups to ensure product investments are aligned with company strategy, customer needs, market opportunities, regulatory expectations, operational goals, and delivery capacity.
This role serves as a key connection point between customers, commercial teams, operations, engineering, quality, implementation, support, and leadership. Product Management is accountable for translating business problems and customer needs into clear product direction, actionable requirements, prioritized roadmaps, and measurable outcomes.
Product Managers may support a variety of solutions across the organization, including clinical trial, operational, reporting, compliance, research administration, and research compliance products. For research compliance solutions such as eCompliance, this may include workflows related to IRB, IACUC, IBC/biosafety, Conflict of Interest, grants, committee management, protocol submissions, reviews, approvals, amendments, renewals, reporting, audit trails, and institutional oversight.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Define and maintain product strategy across assigned products, product areas, or cross-product initiatives.
- Translate company goals, customer needs, market trends, regulatory expectations, and operational priorities into product opportunities.
- Maintain product roadmaps that clearly communicate planned capabilities, sequencing, dependencies, risks, and business value.
- Prioritize initiatives based on customer impact, business value, compliance needs, technical feasibility, usability, scalability, and delivery capacity.
- Identify opportunities to improve user experience, workflow efficiency, automation, reporting, transparency, and product adoption.
Requirements and Product Definition
- Own the creation and maintenance of product requirements, including PRDs, epics, features, user stories, acceptance criteria, and supporting documentation.
- Define the problem, target users, expected outcomes, functional requirements, scope boundaries, assumptions, dependencies, risks, and success metrics.
- Ensure requirements are clear, testable, aligned with business objectives, and suitable for engineering, QA, validation, implementation, support, and customer-facing teams.
- Support cross-product requirements where workflows, data, integrations, reporting, compliance, or user experiences span multiple systems.
- For compliance-oriented products, ensure requirements account for role-based access, audit trails, version history, workflow routing, status tracking, documentation, reporting, archival, and inspection or oversight readiness.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to understand business needs, customer feedback, implementation challenges, support trends, and market demands.
- Collaborate with commercial and customer-facing teams to assess high-value requests, customer commitments, competitive gaps, and market opportunities.
- Communicate product direction, priorities, tradeoffs, risks, and release plans to leadership and cross-functional teams.
- Facilitate alignment across Product, Engineering, QA, Validation, Operations, Commercial, Support, Implementation, and other stakeholder groups.
- Represent the product perspective in planning, governance, release readiness, customer discussions, and cross-functional decision-making forums.
Delivery and Execution
- Partner with Engineering and QA throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure product requirements are understood and implemented as intended.
- Participate in refinement, sprint reviews, demos, validation reviews, and release readiness activities.
- Support prioritization of defects, enhancements, technical debt, customer commitments, and release scope.
- Ensure delivered functionality meets business intent, user needs, compliance expectations, and acceptance criteria.
- Help manage scope, dependencies, risks, and timeline impacts across products and releases.
Release and Enablement
- Support release planning by defining release scope, business value, customer impact, and readiness needs.
- Contribute to release notes, customer-facing summaries, training materials, internal enablement, and support documentation.
- Ensure relevant teams understand what is changing, why it matters, who is impacted, and how customers should be supported.
- Partner with stakeholders to prepare for customer UAT, go-live activities, operational readiness, and post-release feedback.
Product Performance and Continuous Improvement
- Define and track success metrics for product initiatives.
- Monitor adoption, usage, customer feedback, support trends, delivery outcomes, and operational impact.
- Identify opportunities to improve existing products, workflows, documentation, and internal processes.
- Use data, customer input, stakeholder feedback, and market awareness to inform future roadmap decisions and product enhancements.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
- Experience in product management, business analysis, software delivery, research administration, clinical technology, compliance technology, or a related role.
- Ability to work across multiple products, teams, and stakeholder groups.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand complex workflows, systems, business problems, and regulated processes.
- Ability to translate business and customer needs into clear product requirements and actionable delivery artifacts.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience working with engineering, QA, implementation, support, commercial, operations, and leadership stakeholders.
- Ability to prioritize competing needs and make practical tradeoff recommendations.
- Familiarity with agile delivery practices and product lifecycle management.
- Ability to manage ambiguity, drive alignment, and support decision-making across cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SaaS, enterprise software, regulated systems, healthcare technology, clinical trials, research compliance, research administration, life sciences, or similar complex domains.
- Familiarity with workflows such as protocol submission, review, approval, amendments, renewals, committee review, document management, reporting, audit trails, and role-based access.
- Experience with tools such as GitLab, Azure DevOps, Jira, Aha!, Confluence, or similar product and delivery platforms.
- Experience defining PRDs, epics, features, user stories, acceptance criteria, release notes, and roadmap materials.
- Experience supporting cross-product initiatives, integrations, reporting, data workflows, configurable workflows, or platform-level capabilities.
- Understanding of compliance, validation, auditability, security, privacy, and regulated software delivery.
