We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Senior Consultant Pathologist / Head of Department (HOD) to lead and manage the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Department. The candidate will be responsible for overseeing all diagnostic services, ensuring accurate and timely reporting, maintaining NABL standards and accreditation requirements, implementing quality management systems, and providing clinical and administrative leadership to the department.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Department and ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
- Perform, review, interpret, and authorize pathology reports across Hematology, Clinical Pathology, Cytology, Histopathology, Biochemistry, and other relevant areas.
- Provide expert interpretation of CBC, peripheral smears, coagulation studies, FNAC, cytology, histopathology, biochemical investigations, and other laboratory tests.
- Supervise and guide consultants, pathologists, laboratory technicians, and other laboratory staff.
- Ensure accurate, reliable, and timely reporting of laboratory investigations.
- Ensure strict compliance with NABL accreditation standards, quality management systems, SOPs, and laboratory protocols.
- Take overall responsibility for NABL-related documentation, audits, assessments, and compliance.
- Establish, review, and update SOPs, quality manuals, work instructions, and laboratory protocols.
- Monitor Internal Quality Control (IQC), External Quality Assessment (EQAS), proficiency testing, and other quality indicators.
- Identify laboratory errors, non-conformities, and discrepancies and implement appropriate Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Ensure proper validation and verification of laboratory methods, equipment, and processes.
- Oversee sample collection, processing, transportation, storage, rejection criteria, and disposal.
- Monitor calibration, preventive maintenance, breakdowns, and performance of laboratory equipment.
- Ensure proper handling and reporting of critical and abnormal laboratory results and timely communication with clinicians.
- Coordinate closely with clinicians, medical departments, nursing staff, administration, and other hospital departments.
- Ensure compliance with infection control, biomedical waste management, laboratory safety, and statutory requirements.
- Conduct regular departmental meetings, training sessions, competency assessments, and performance reviews for laboratory staff.
- Participate in hospital quality initiatives, clinical meetings, audits, accreditation activities, and management reviews.
- Monitor laboratory workload, manpower requirements, inventory, reagents, consumables, and equipment requirements.
- Coordinate with vendors and the purchase department for laboratory equipment, reagents, and consumables.
- Ensure cost-effective utilization of laboratory resources without compromising quality of patient care.
- Investigate and resolve patient, clinician, or laboratory-related complaints and reporting discrepancies.
- Develop and monitor quality indicators, turnaround time (TAT), critical value reporting, and laboratory performance metrics.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of patient information and laboratory records.
- Keep the department updated with current diagnostic techniques, technologies, guidelines, and best practices.
- Provide leadership in the implementation of new tests, technologies, automation, and laboratory services.
- Take overall accountability for clinical, operational, quality, and administrative functioning of the department.
Required Qualifications
- MBBS + MD/DNB in Pathology from a recognized institution.
- 8–10 years of relevant experience in Pathology/Laboratory Medicine.
- Previous experience in a Senior Consultant / HOD / Department Head role will be preferred.
- Strong expertise in Hematology, Cytology, Histopathology, Clinical Pathology, and Biochemistry.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience with NABL accreditation and quality management systems.
- Experience in laboratory audits, quality control, IQC, EQAS, CAPA, SOP development, and compliance.
- Strong leadership, communication, clinical decision-making, and team-management skills.
Pay: ₹225,000.00 - ₹250,000.00 per month
