About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Backend Developer who enjoys building robust backend systems and isn't afraid to work beyond the application layer. This role is ideal for someone who understands that building reliable software also means understanding the Linux environment it runs on and the networking fundamentals that keep it connected.
Our current platform is built on Linux, Apache/Nginx, MySQL, and PHP (Laravel & CodeIgniter). As we continue to modernize our technology stack, we're investing in Go, Node.js (TypeScript), and Python. We're not looking for someone who knows every technology we use today—we're looking for someone with strong engineering fundamentals who can quickly learn and adapt to new tools and technologies.
What You'll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications and services.
- Build and maintain REST APIs and platform components.
- Develop and optimize backend systems running on Linux.
- Write Shell/Bash scripts to automate deployments, maintenance, and operational tasks.
- Design and optimize MySQL databases while evaluating NoSQL or time-series databases where appropriate.
- Troubleshoot issues across application, database, Linux, and networking layers.
- Collaborate with Infrastructure and DevOps teams on deployments, performance tuning, and platform reliability.
- Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and technical decision-making.
- Evaluate and recommend technologies that improve the platform's scalability, performance, and maintainability.
What We're Looking ForBackend Development
- 5–8 years of software development experience.
- At least 2–3 years of hands-on backend development.
- Strong programming fundamentals and software design principles.
- Experience with PHP is a plus.
- Exposure to Go, Node.js/TypeScript, or Python is highly desirable.
- Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
Linux & Networking Fundamentals
We're not looking for a Linux Administrator or Network Engineer, but you should be comfortable working in Linux environments and understand the networking concepts that support modern backend applications.
You should be familiar with:
- Linux distributions such as Debian, Ubuntu, or CentOS/RHEL
- Shell/Bash scripting
- System services, logs, processes, permissions, and package management
- TCP/IP fundamentals and basic network troubleshooting
- DNS, DHCP, VPN, and RADIUS concepts
- Using common diagnostic tools such as ping, curl, dig, ss/netstat, traceroute, and tcpdump
The ability to troubleshoot issues across application code, operating systems, and networking is more important than deep infrastructure specialization.
Databases
- Strong experience with MySQL.
- Knowledge of database design and query optimization.
- Exposure to NoSQL or time-series databases is an advantage.
Nice to Have
- Docker and containerization
- CI/CD pipelines
- Grafana, Prometheus, or InfluxDB
- Cloud infrastructure experience
- Hosting, ISP, or telecom domain experience
- Monitoring and observability tools
- Performance tuning and system optimization
