A construction storekeeper manages site inventory by receiving, inspecting, storing, and issuing materials, tools, and equipment. They are responsible for accurate documentation, maintaining inventory records, conducting stock counts, coordinating with suppliers, and ensuring the security and safety of all materials to prevent theft or damage.
Responsibilities of the Storekeeper
- Maintain daily records of material receipts and consumption.
- Verify stock regularly against recorded inventory.
- Receive materials, ensure proper storage, and record all receipts accurately.
- Assist the Junior Engineer (J.E.) in preparing quality reports for received materials.
- Issue materials as per approved indents for various works.
- Monitor site activities to minimize wastage and prevent improper use of materials.
- Collect and account for any unused or surplus materials at the end of each working day.
- Ensure proper handover of materials at the site to night security personnel by day security staff.
- Update stock details on display boards and stock registers regularly.
- Prepare fortnightly and monthly consumption reports in coordination with the Junior Engineer.
- Identify and maintain records of excess materials.
- Update stock records periodically and maintain accuracy at all times.
- Inform the concerned engineer about stock levels to enable timely raising of indents.
- Follow up with suppliers, with prior approval from the Purchase Department, to ensure timely delivery of materials.
- Maintain records of departmental tools, machinery, and equipment at the site.
- Maintain records of cash purchases.
- Keep records of empty cement bags received from contractors.
- Maintain records of electricity and water bills.
- Inform the concerned engineer about the working condition of machinery and equipment.
Essential Skills & Competencies:
- Proficiency in computer software like spreadsheets or excels etc.
- Knowledge of construction materials, tools, and safe handling procedures.
- Strong organizational, communication, and coordination skills.
- Qualification: Any degree with relevant experience.
- Proven Experience in construction industries only apply.
