Job Purpose
The Storage & Backup Administrator is responsible for the administration, optimization, security, availability, and lifecycle management of enterprise storage and backup infrastructures across cloud, on-premises, and hybrid environments. The role ensures business continuity through effective backup, recovery, disaster recovery (DR), capacity management, and storage performance optimization while supporting mission-critical applications and enterprise workloads.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Storage Infrastructure Administration
Install, configure, and manage cloud storage, enterprise storage platforms including SAN, NAS, Object Storage, and Software-Defined Storage solutions.
Provision and manage storage resources for servers, virtualization platforms, databases, and containerized environments.
Administer Fibre Channel, iSCSI, & NVMe storage infrastructure.
Perform storage allocation, zoning, LUN masking, and capacity planning activities.
Ensure optimal storage performance, availability, and scalability.
- Enterprise Backup Administration
Manage enterprise backup and recovery solutions across physical, virtual, cloud, and containerized workloads.
Configure and maintain backup schedules, retention policies, and compliance requirements.
Monitor backup jobs and ensure successful completion within defined SLAs.
Perform backup validation and restoration testing activities.
Support business-critical application backup requirements.
- Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity
Design, implement, and maintain disaster recovery solutions.
Conduct periodic DR drills and recovery testing exercises.
Ensure adherence to Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) commitments.
Manage replication technologies and offsite backup strategies.
Support enterprise business continuity programs.
- Storage Performance & Capacity Management
Monitor storage performance, latency, throughput, and utilization metrics.
Conduct trend analysis and growth forecasting.
Optimize storage allocation and tiering strategies.
Perform capacity planning and lifecycle management.
Recommend storage modernization and cost optimization initiatives.
- Cloud Storage & Backup Management
Administer cloud-based storage and backup platforms across Azure, AWS, and hybrid cloud environments.
Implement backup and archival strategies for cloud workloads.
Manage cloud-native backup solutions and storage lifecycle policies.
Optimize cloud storage consumption and associated operational costs.
Support cloud migration and modernization initiatives.
Implement storage security policies, access controls, encryption, and data protection mechanisms.
Ensure backup and storage environments comply with organizational security standards.
Support audit requirements and regulatory compliance frameworks such as ISO 27001, SOC2, GDPR, and PCI-DSS.
Conduct vulnerability assessments and remediation activities.
Ensure immutability and ransomware protection strategies are implemented.
- Incident & Problem Management
Troubleshoot storage, backup, and recovery-related incidents.
Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for critical failures and outages.
Participate in Incident, Problem, Change, and Release Management processes.
Maintain operational documentation, SOPs, and recovery procedures.
Ensure SLA compliance across all storage and backup services.
- Automation & Service Improvement
Develop automation scripts using PowerShell, Python, Shell Scripting, or vendor APIs.
Implement Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and automation frameworks where applicable.
Continuously improve backup success rates, storage efficiency, and operational processes.
Support platform modernization and transformation initiatives.
Experience & Educational Requirement
BE/B-Tech or equivalent with Computer Science or Electronics & Communication
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
- Minimum 8 - 12 years of experience in enterprise storage and backup administration.
- Experience managing Cloud Storage, SAN, NAS, Object Storage, and enterprise backup solutions.
- Hands-on experience with large-scale enterprise storage infrastructures.
- Experience supporting VMware, Hyper-V, Kubernetes, and cloud environments.
- Strong exposure to disaster recovery, business continuity, and data protection frameworks.
- Experience working in 24x7 managed services and enterprise operations environments.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
