Position: Assistant General Manager – Logistics

Role Summary
The Assistant General Manager – Logistics will be responsible for managing the end-to-end logistics operations of the company, ensuring efficient movement of raw materials and finished goods across the supply chain network. The role requires strategic planning, transportation management, vendor development, cost optimization, digital transformation, and cross-functional coordination with sales, manufacturing, procurement, and finance teams.
The incumbent will lead both primary and secondary logistics operations to ensure timely deliveries, optimal inventory levels, and superior customer service while maintaining strict control over logistics costs.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Transportation & Network Management
- Develop and execute logistics strategies for efficient movement of cement and raw materials across multiple locations.
- Manage multimodal transportation involving road and rail networks, including coordination of railway rakes and siding operations.
- Design and optimize primary distribution (Plant-to-Depot) and secondary distribution (Depot/Plant-to-Customer) networks.
- Monitor transportation performance and implement initiatives to improve turnaround time and fleet utilization.
- Drive freight cost optimization through contract negotiations, freight modeling, route rationalization, and spot bidding.
2. Supply Chain Planning & Operations
- Collaborate with Sales, Production, and Planning teams to support Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) processes.
- Ensure product availability by aligning dispatch plans with market demand and production schedules.
- Monitor inventory levels across plants, depots, and warehouses to avoid stock-outs and excess inventory.
- Drive Direct Dispatch (DD) initiatives from manufacturing units to key project sites and institutional customers.
- Ensure seamless coordination between plants, depots, transporters, and customers.
3. Vendor & Depot Management
- Identify, onboard, and manage transport contractors, rake handling agencies, warehouse operators, and Carrying & Forwarding Agents (CFAs).
- Develop vendor performance metrics and monitor compliance with service-level agreements (SLAs).
- Conduct periodic reviews to improve service quality, vehicle availability, and cost efficiency.
- Oversee depot and warehouse operations, ensuring adherence to operational standards and safety norms.
4. Digital Transformation & Process Excellence
- Lead implementation and enhancement of Transportation Management Systems (TMS) and logistics automation initiatives.
- Ensure real-time visibility of shipments through GPS tracking, E-POD, and digital logistics platforms.
- Drive process improvements through analytics, dashboard reporting, and KPI monitoring.
- Promote technology adoption across logistics operations to improve productivity and customer experience.
5. Inbound Logistics & Procurement Support
- Manage logistics and supply chain operations for critical raw materials such as gypsum, fly ash, slag, coal, pet coke, and alternative fuels.
- Coordinate with procurement and manufacturing teams to ensure uninterrupted material availability.
- Monitor inbound transportation costs and supplier performance.
6. Compliance, Governance & Stakeholder Management
- Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, statutory requirements, and company policies.
- Coordinate with railway authorities, government agencies, and industry bodies on logistics-related matters.
- Support tax-efficient movement of goods across states while adhering to applicable regulations.
- Prepare MIS reports, logistics budgets, and performance reviews for management.
Preferred Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain, Operations, or related discipline.
- MBA / PGDM in Supply Chain Management, Operations Management, Logistics, or equivalent preferred.
Experience
- 10–15+ years of experience in Logistics, Supply Chain, or Distribution Management.
- Minimum 5–8 years in a second-line leadership role.
- Preference will be given to candidates from Cement, Building Materials, Mining, Steel, Infrastructure, FMCG, or other heavy manufacturing industries.
- Strong exposure to fleet management, warehouse operations, and distribution network planning.

Compensation
15 to 18 Lakhs per annum and is negotiable for the right candidate.
Pay: ₹1,500,000.00 - ₹1,800,000.00 per year
