Job Summary
The Cosmetic Manufacturing/Production Chemist is responsible for manufacturing cosmetic and personal care products according to approved formulations, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). The role ensures efficient production, consistent product quality, process optimization, equipment hygiene, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manufacture cosmetic products such as creams, lotions, shampoos, conditioners, serums, gels, oils, face washes, and other personal care products according to approved batch manufacturing records (BMRs).
- Accurately weigh, measure, and dispense raw materials as per formulation requirements.
- Operate and monitor manufacturing equipment including mixers, homogenizers, heating vessels, vacuum emulsifiers, and filling machines.
- Monitor critical process parameters including temperature, mixing speed, pH, viscosity, and batch consistency.
- Ensure adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), SOPs, and workplace safety guidelines.
- Perform in-process quality checks and coordinate with the Quality Control (QC) team for sampling and testing.
- Maintain complete and accurate production documentation, including batch records, equipment logs, and cleaning records.
- Troubleshoot production issues and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Minimize material wastage and improve manufacturing efficiency.
- Ensure proper cleaning, sanitization, and maintenance of manufacturing equipment and production areas.
- Coordinate with R&D for scale-up trials, technology transfer, and validation batches.
- Support production planning to meet delivery schedules and production targets.
- Assist during internal and external audits and regulatory inspections.
- Train production operators on manufacturing procedures, hygiene, and safety practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Industrial Chemistry, or a related field.
- 1–3 years of experience in cosmetic, personal care, pharmaceutical, or FMCG manufacturing. (Fresh graduates may be considered for trainee roles.)
Required Skills
- Knowledge of cosmetic formulations and manufacturing processes.
- Understanding of emulsions, surfactant systems, preservatives, and raw material compatibility.
- Familiarity with GMP, ISO 22716, and cosmetic regulatory requirements.
- Ability to operate manufacturing equipment safely and efficiently.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Good documentation and record-keeping practices.
- Effective communication and teamwork.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and ERP/MRP systems is desirable.

Working Conditions

Preferred Experience
- Experience in manufacturing skin care, hair care, oral care, or color cosmetic products.
- Familiarity with batch scale-up, process validation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience with GMP audits and regulatory compliance
