Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Assistant Manager – Environment Department to manage and supervise environmental testing, sampling, monitoring and reporting activities. The candidate should have strong hands-on experience in environmental laboratory testing, field monitoring and ISO/IEC 17025:2017/NABL requirements.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring technically accurate testing, proper sampling and documentation, timely reporting, equipment management and compliance with applicable environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day operations of the Environment Testing Department.
- Plan, supervise and execute environmental sampling and monitoring activities.
- Conduct and supervise testing of:
- Wastewater / Sewage / Effluent
- Drinking and surface water
- Ambient air quality
- Indoor air quality
- Stack emissions
- Soil
- Noise monitoring
- Other environmental samples as per laboratory scope.
- Handle field instruments such as RDS, FPS, Stack Monitoring Kit, Noise Meter, CO Analyzer, Flue Gas Analyzer and other environmental monitoring equipment.
- Ensure proper sample collection, preservation, labeling, transportation and traceability.
- Perform/review environmental chemical and instrumental testing as per applicable IS, APHA, ASTM, CPCB/SPCB and other approved methods.
- Prepare, review and verify test worksheets, calculations, observations and environmental test reports.
- Ensure testing activities are performed according to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and NABL requirements.
- Maintain SOPs, test methods, quality records, equipment records and other technical documentation.
- Support method verification/validation, measurement uncertainty, quality control and proficiency testing/inter-laboratory comparison activities.
- Monitor calibration, intermediate checks and preventive maintenance of laboratory and field equipment.
- Identify deviations, non-conforming work, OOS/OOT results and assist in root-cause analysis and CAPA.
- Prepare the department for NABL assessments, internal audits, customer audits and regulatory inspections.
- Ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations and standards.
- Lead and allocate work to environmental laboratory staff and field monitoring teams.
- Train junior chemists/technicians on sampling, testing, instruments, SOPs and safety procedures.
- Coordinate with clients regarding sampling schedules, technical requirements, reports and test-related queries.
- Ensure timely completion of testing and reporting while maintaining accuracy and data integrity.
- Maintain laboratory safety, housekeeping, chemical handling and 5S practices.
- Support continuous improvement of environmental testing procedures and laboratory operations.
Required Technical Skills
- Strong practical experience in Environmental Testing and Monitoring.
- Good knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and NABL requirements.
- Hands-on experience in water/wastewater, air, stack emission, soil and noise testing/monitoring.
- Knowledge of environmental sampling and sample preservation.
- Experience with environmental monitoring instruments and analytical laboratory equipment.
- Knowledge of CPCB/SPCB requirements and applicable environmental standards.
- Understanding of method validation/verification, QC, uncertainty of measurement and proficiency testing.
- Good knowledge of laboratory documentation and technical report preparation.
- Experience in handling audits, non-conformities and CAPA.
- Good team-management and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in MS Excel and laboratory documentation/LIMS will be an advantage.
Experience Profile
2–6 years of core experience in an environmental testing laboratory, preferably a NABL-accredited laboratory, with significant hands-on exposure to environmental sampling, monitoring, testing, documentation and ISO/IEC 17025 compliance.
For an Assistant Manager-level candidate, preference can be given to someone with 4–6 years of strong environmental laboratory experience and demonstrated team-handling responsibility.

Pay: ₹35,000.00 - ₹45,000.00 per month
