Job description:
Overview
We are looking for a skilled RF Test Engineer to support testing, validation, and characterization of RF front-end systems, including solid-state power amplifiers, RF modules, and communication subsystems. The role involves developing and executing RF test procedures, working with automated test equipment (ATE), and providing feedback to design teams to improve system performance and reliability.
The engineer will work closely with RF design, hardware, and manufacturing teams to ensure robust testing and validation of RF systems.
Key Responsibilities
RF Testing & Validation
- Perform testing and characterization of RF front-end modules, including solid-state power amplifiers (SSPAs).
- Validate key RF performance parameters such as:
- Gain
- Output power
- Efficiency
- Harmonics and spurious emissions
- Linearity
- Noise figure (where applicable)
- Execute RF test procedures according to client-provided test plans.
RF Instrumentation
Operate and perform measurements using RF instruments such as:
- Spectrum Analyzer
- Vector Network Analyzer (VNA)
- Signal Generator
- Oscilloscope
- Power meters and RF sensors
- RF switch matrices and attenuators
S-Parameter & RF Characterization
- Measure and interpret S-parameters (S11, S21, S22, etc.).
- Perform RF calibration procedures.
- Analyze RF performance deviations and identify root causes.
Amplifier Testing
- Understand and implement power amplifier biasing schemes.
- Ensure correct power sequencing and protection mechanisms during testing.
- Perform high-power RF testing with proper thermal and safety considerations.
RF Automated Test Equipment (ATE)
- Work with RF Automated Test Equipment (ATE) systems.
- Translate customer test plans into executable test procedures.
- Develop or modify test setups and automation workflows.
- Optimize test processes for repeatability, accuracy, and efficiency.
Hardware Debug & Assembly Support
- Perform hardware debugging and troubleshooting for RF assemblies.
- Provide touch-ups and minor rework support during assembly when required.
- Assist in prototype bring-up and validation.
Interface & Control Protocols
- Understand and debug hardware interfaces including:
- SPI
- I2C
- UART
- GPIO control signals
These interfaces may be used to configure RF front-end modules and amplifiers.
EMI/EMC Awareness
- Understand EMI/EMC compliance requirements.
- Support pre-compliance testing and troubleshooting.
- Identify potential EMI sources during RF testing.
Test Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare detailed RF test reports documenting:
- Test setup
- Measurement results
- Observed anomalies
- Failure points
