Production Manager is responsible for leading and managing all production operations to ensure products are manufactured efficiently, safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The role involves planning production schedules, optimizing manufacturing processes, managing production teams, controlling costs, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Roles and ResponsibilitiesProduction Planning and Execution
- Develop and implement daily, weekly, and monthly production plans.
- Ensure production targets are achieved while maintaining quality standards.
- Monitor production schedules and adjust resources to meet delivery commitments.
- Coordinate with procurement, stores, and logistics to ensure uninterrupted production.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and supervise production supervisors, engineers, and shop-floor employees.
- Allocate manpower efficiently across production lines.
- Conduct performance reviews and identify training and development needs.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, discipline, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Manufacturing Process Management
- Optimize production processes to improve productivity and reduce waste.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, and other process improvement initiatives.
- Identify bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure effective utilization of machinery, equipment, and manpower.
Quality Management
- Ensure products meet company quality standards and customer specifications.
- Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to reduce defects and rework.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions for quality issues.
- Monitor quality performance indicators and drive continuous improvement.
Cost Control
- Manage production budgets and control manufacturing costs.
- Monitor material consumption and minimize wastage.
- Improve operational efficiency to increase profitability.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction without compromising quality.
Maintenance Coordination
- Coordinate preventive and breakdown maintenance activities.
- Ensure machinery and equipment remain in optimal operating condition.
- Work with maintenance teams to reduce machine downtime.
Inventory and Material Management
- Monitor raw material availability and production inventory.
- Coordinate with procurement and warehouse teams to prevent shortages or excess inventory.
- Ensure accurate material usage and production reporting.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies.
- Promote a safe working environment through regular inspections and training.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and statutory requirements.
Performance Monitoring
- Track key production KPIs, including:
- Production output
- Machine utilization
- Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE)
- Rejection and defect rates
- On-time delivery
- Labour productivity
- Downtime
- Prepare and present production reports to senior management.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Sales, Design, Procurement, Quality, Maintenance, Stores, and Logistics teams.
- Support new product introductions and manufacturing improvements.
- Participate in strategic planning and capacity expansion initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- 8-10 years of experience in manufacturing operations, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Experience in furniture manufacturing, wood processing, or related industries is preferred.
