Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Electrical & Mechanical Manager – SMS to oversee the electrical and mechanical maintenance and operations of our Steel Melting Shop (SMS) at our Medchal facility.
The ideal candidate should have 10+ years of relevant experience in steel plant/SMS maintenance, with hands-on experience in Induction Furnace, CCM (Continuous Casting Machine), and associated SMS equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise electrical and mechanical maintenance activities across the SMS.
- Ensure reliable and efficient operation of Induction Furnaces, CCM, EOT cranes, cooling systems, hydraulic systems, compressors, pumps, and other SMS equipment.
- Plan and execute preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and mechanical equipment failures with minimum downtime.
- Lead and manage the maintenance team, including technicians, supervisors, and contractors.
- Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability, productivity, and equipment life.
- Coordinate with Production and other departments to ensure smooth SMS operations.
- Maintain proper records of maintenance activities, breakdowns, spare parts, and equipment history.
- Plan and maintain adequate inventory of critical electrical and mechanical spares.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures, statutory requirements, and company maintenance standards.
- Conduct root-cause analysis of major breakdowns and implement corrective/preventive actions.
- Manage shutdown maintenance activities and ensure timely completion.
- Support installation, commissioning, modification, and improvement of SMS equipment when required.
- Control maintenance costs while maintaining equipment reliability and safety.
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in Steel Plant / Steel Melting Shop / Foundry / Heavy Engineering industry.
- Strong hands-on experience with Induction Furnace and CCM.
- Good knowledge of electrical and mechanical maintenance of SMS equipment.
- Experience in troubleshooting HT/LT electrical systems, motors, drives, panels, PLCs, hydraulics, pneumatics, pumps, gearboxes, bearings, and cooling systems.
- Experience in managing maintenance teams and contractors.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively to breakdown situations.
- Good knowledge of preventive and breakdown maintenance practices.
- Strong focus on safety, equipment uptime, and continuous improvement.
Qualification
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering.
- Candidates with relevant SMS/steel plant maintenance experience will be preferred.
