Senior Pharmacist – Job Responsibilities
1. Pharmacy Operations
- Oversee day-to-day pharmacy operations across all shifts.
- Ensure accurate dispensing of prescription and over-the-counter medications.
- Verify prescriptions for completeness, legality, and appropriateness before dispensing.
- Maintain smooth functioning of the pharmacy during night and emergency hours.
- Handle customer inquiries regarding medicines, dosage, and usage instructions.
2. Patient Counseling & Healthcare Support
- Counsel patients on proper medication use, dosage, storage, and potential side effects.
- Provide guidance on drug interactions and precautions.
- Promote medication adherence and patient safety.
- Assist customers with basic health-related product selection.
3. Regulatory & Legal Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable pharmacy laws, regulations, and licensing requirements.
- Maintain records for prescription drugs, controlled substances, and scheduled medicines.
- Prepare for and support inspections by regulatory authorities.
- Ensure proper documentation and record retention.
4. Inventory Management
- Monitor stock levels and ensure adequate availability of medicines.
- Manage ordering, receiving, and storage of pharmaceutical products.
- Track expiry dates and arrange timely removal or return of expired products.
- Minimize stock shortages and inventory losses.
5. Team Leadership & Supervision
- Supervise pharmacists, pharmacy assistants, and support staff.
- Prepare shift schedules to ensure 24-hour coverage.
- Train and mentor junior pharmacists and staff.
- Monitor staff performance and ensure adherence to SOPs.
6. Quality & Safety Management
- Implement and maintain pharmacy standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Ensure proper storage conditions for medicines, including temperature-sensitive products.
- Investigate and resolve dispensing errors or customer complaints.
- Maintain cleanliness, safety, and organization of the pharmacy.
7. Customer Service
- Deliver high-quality customer service and professional patient care.
- Handle escalated customer concerns and medication-related queries.
- Build long-term customer relationships through professional and ethical practices.
8. Reporting & Administration
- Prepare daily and monthly reports on sales, inventory, and operational performance.
- Coordinate with suppliers, distributors, and healthcare professionals.
- Support implementation of pharmacy management software and digital records.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm)
- Valid pharmacist registration/license as required by local regulations.
- 2+ years of retail pharmacy experience, preferably in a high-volume or 24-hour pharmacy.
- Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical products, drug interactions, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience in team management and inventory control.
