A Coil Winder is a skilled manufacturing role responsible for fabricating electromagnetic wire coils used in electrical components like transformers, motors, and generators. They operate specialized machinery to wrap wire around cores with precise tension, manage insulation, and ensure parts meet strict technical and safety standards. Core Responsibilities
- Machine Operation: Set up, operate, or tend to automated or manual wire-coiling machines.
- Blueprint Reading: Interpret work orders, electrical schematics, and engineering blueprints to determine exact specifications.
- Quality Control: Inspect and test finished coils for proper resistance, inductance, and dimensional accuracy.
- Material Preparation: Cut, strip, and bend wire leads, and apply proper insulation using hand tools.
- Production Logging: Record operational data and maintain compliance with safety and EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) protocols.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of basic electronics, electrical diagrams, and wire properties.
- Dexterity & Precision: High manual dexterity and attention to detail for handling thin wires and tight tolerances.
- Tools & Equipment: Proficiency with winding machines, soldering irons, wire scrapers, multimeters, and calipers.
Work Environment
- Typically a manufacturing plant or production facility.
- Involves standing for extended periods and may require using protective gear like safety glasses and steel-toed boots.
