About : The Physical Education Section at IIT Kanpur is dedicated to promoting health, fitness, and sportsmanship among the institute's community. With state-of-the-art infrastructure, the section manages competitive sports teams, intramural tournaments, and recreational activities, ensuring a healthy work-life-study balance for students, faculties and staffs. The Section is also responsible for charting out the athletic calendar, managing facilities, and preparing the student contingent for prestigious tournaments like the Inter-IIT Sports Meet.
Role Summary :
The Coach (Hockey) will be responsible for the systematic development, training, and administration of the Hockey program at IIT Kanpur. The main aim of this role is to build a supportive, active environment for anyone interested in playing hockey within the IIT Kanpur community. Specifically, the role involves identifying and nurturing athletic talent within the student body, running structured team practice sessions, overseeing field maintenance/turf operations, and helping manage campus-wide sports events.
1. To conduct daily training sessions focusing on hockey fundamentals, tactical strategies, penalty corner variations, and match play for beginners to advanced competitive players.
2. To design and implement hockey-specific physical conditioning (emphasizing multi-directional speed, aerobic endurance, and agility) and injury-prevention routines for the student teams.
3. To assist the PE Section/SPEC in selecting, mentoring, and preparing the institute's Hockey contingent for the Inter-IIT Sports Meet and other external tournaments.
4. To oversee the day-to-day operations of the hockey fields (including synthetic turf upkeep, if applicable, and line marking), ensuring safety protocols, proper scheduling, and optimal maintenance of equipment and facilities.
5. To assist in planning, organizing, and executing intramural tournaments, open leagues, and campus sports festivals.
Detailed Responsibilities :
1. To conduct regular practice sessions for the institute team; involving match simulation and field drills focusing on stick-work, trapping, passing accuracy, dribbling, drag-flicking, and positional awareness.
2. To maintain accurate records of student attendance, sports equipment inventory (such as goalie kits, balls, cones, and bibs), and field usage logs.
3. To serve as a positive role model, instilling a sense of discipline, sportsmanship, and cohesive teamwork among student-athletes.
4. To accompany the sports contingent as an official or coach during outstation tournaments when authorized.
5. To assist in conducting the physical education classes for the first-year undergraduate batch.
6. To conduct frequent workshops and recreational clinics to encourage more community members from IIT Kanpur to take up the sport of hockey.
M.P.Ed. + 1 year of sports specific coaching experience (after M.P.Ed.)
Or
B.P.Ed. + 3 years of sports specific coaching experience (after B.P.Ed.)
Or
B.P.Ed./Graduation + a diploma in coaching from NIS Patiala or similar recognized institute.
1. 4-5 years of experience coaching Hockey at a university, school, national academy, or club level.
2. Active background as a competitive Hockey player (representing university, or national levels).
Coached/trained any team who has participated in national/ University level competition.
Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹60,000.00 per month
