Job Description
We are seeking a knowledgeable, customer-focused DME Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will assist patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers with obtaining and understanding durable medical equipment, ensuring high-quality service, accurate documentation, and compliance with insurance and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist patients in selecting and obtaining appropriate durable medical equipment (e.g., oxygen supplies, CPAP/BiPAP, mobility aids, nebulizers, etc.)
- Educate patients and caregivers on proper equipment use, care, and maintenance
- Process orders, documentation, and prior authorizations with accuracy and efficiency
- Verify insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility according to payer requirements
- Coordinate deliveries, pickups, and equipment setup as needed
- Maintain inventory accuracy and ensure equipment is clean, safe, and ready for use
- Communicate with physicians, case managers, and other healthcare professionals
- Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance DME guidelines
- Handle customer inquiries and provide exceptional service both in-person and over the phone
- Maintain detailed and accurate records in DME software systems (e.g., Brightree, NikoHealth, etc.)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required (required); healthcare-related experience preferred
- Previous DME, HME, respiratory, or medical office experience strongly preferred
- Knowledge of insurance verification, prior authorizations, and DME billing codes a plus
- Strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail
- Familiarity with Medicare/Medicaid policies and HIPAA compliance
- Basic computer proficiency; experience with EMR/DME management systems preferred
