Job Description: Design Lead (Structural)
Role Purpose:
To spearhead the digital transformation of our structural engineering division. This role is not just about managing models; it is about bridging the gap between high-level structural analysis and integrated BIM delivery. You will be responsible for ensuring that every design is safe, cost-optimized, and "construction-ready" while mentoring a high-performance team to meet global standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Design & Analysis
- Lead the structural analysis and design for complex steel and concrete projects.
- Translate theoretical calculations into highly accurate, data-rich BIM models.
Oversee the development of detailed drawings and comprehensive design documentation.
-
2. Mentorship & Team Excellence
- Act as a technical mentor to junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and accountability.
- Conduct regular internal design reviews to reduce error rates and improve engineering quality.
Bridge the skill gap by training staff on the intersection of structural fundamentals and BIM software.
-
3. Integrated Delivery & Optimization
- Drive Value Engineering initiatives to ensure designs are optimized for both material cost and constructability.
- Coordinate seamlessly with MEP and Architectural BIM teams to resolve clashes and ensure integrated project delivery.
Standardize workflows to improve Turnaround Time (TAT) without compromising technical integrity.
-
4. Compliance & Standards
- Ensure all project outputs strictly adhere to global codes, including ACI, AISC, Eurocode, and IS codes .
Develop and maintain internal "Standard Operating Procedures" (SOPs) for structural BIM workflows.
-
Achieve <5% revision rate due to technical errors.
Documented cost savings through value engineering on every major project.
100% adherence to project timelines and TAT targets.
Successful integration of structural data into 4D/5D BIM environments.
Measurable improvement in team technical competency scores year-over-year.
The Ideal Candidate
Experience & Education:
- 15+ years of core experience in structural design, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial capacity.
Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
-
Technical Mastery:
- Advanced proficiency in analysis software: ETABS, STAAD.Pro, SAFE, and SAP2000 .
- Expert-level knowledge of BIM platforms (e.g., Revit Structure, Navisworks, Tekla ).
Deep understanding of the "Process" behind integrated delivery—moving from analysis to 3D model to fabrication drawings.
-
Leadership & Mindset:
- Commercial Awareness: Ability to balance "perfect engineering" with "profitable delivery."
- Growth Mindset: A passion for leveraging technology (AI, automation, BIM) to stay ahead of industry trends.
- Communication: Exceptional ability to explain complex structural concepts to both technical teams and non-technical clients.
