We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Furniture Technical Designer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for converting approved furniture designs and concepts into accurate production drawings for factory manufacturing. This role serves as the critical link between design, engineering, and production, ensuring that every furniture piece is technically feasible, manufacturable, and executed to the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed production and shop drawings for custom furniture.
- Develop technical drawings including plans, elevations, sections, and construction details.
- Create detailed joinery, hardware, and assembly drawings.
- Specify materials, finishes, hardware, and manufacturing methods.
- Generate Bills of Materials (BOM), cut lists, and material schedules.
- Coordinate with designers to translate concepts into production-ready documentation.
- Work closely with factory supervisors, carpenters, metal fabricators, upholsterers, and vendors to resolve technical issues.
- Ensure drawings comply with company quality standards and manufacturing capabilities.
- Review designs for structural integrity, functionality, and cost efficiency.
- Prepare CNC-ready drawings and files where applicable.
- Conduct site measurements and verify dimensions when required.
- Revise drawings based on client feedback, production requirements, or site conditions.
- Maintain organized records of all drawings, revisions, and project documentation.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (mandatory).
- Working knowledge of SketchUp, SolidWorks, Rhino, or similar design software.
- Strong understanding of furniture construction methods and joinery.
- Knowledge of plywood, MDF, HDHMR, veneers, laminates, PU finishes, metalwork, stone, glass, and upholstery.
- Familiarity with furniture hardware including Hettich, Hafele, Blum, and equivalent systems.
- Excellent technical detailing and problem-solving skills.
- Strong attention to detail and dimensional accuracy.
- Ability to interpret design intent and convert it into manufacturable solutions.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Furniture Design, Interior Design, Product Design, Architecture, or related field.
- 2+ years of experience in furniture detailing, technical design, or production drafting.
- Experience working with custom furniture manufacturers, interior fit-out firms, or luxury furniture brands is preferred.
