About ChatMRO
ChatMRO is a chat-first marketplace and AI assistant for MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Operations). Our platform uses applied machine learning, semantic search, retrieval, and Large Language Models (LLMs) to help customers discover and purchase products through a conversational interface.

About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Data Scientist with strong fundamentals in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and applied AI. You will work on the retrieval and intelligence layer powering ChatMRO, focusing on search, ranking, catalog intelligence, RAG, and LLM-powered applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Improve product search, retrieval, and ranking using embeddings, vector search, and reranking techniques.
- Design and run experiments, define evaluation metrics, and convert insights into product improvements.
- Develop and optimize RAG and LLM-powered applications with a focus on efficient retrieval and context usage.
- Work on large-scale data science problems including catalog normalization, deduplication, classification, and pattern detection.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to move ML models and data pipelines from experimentation to production.
- Analyze complex, ambiguous problems and develop practical, scalable solutions.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 2–4 years of hands-on experience in Data Science / Applied Machine Learning.
- Strong understanding of Machine Learning and Deep Learning fundamentals.
- Good knowledge of concepts such as:
- Bias-variance tradeoff
- Regularization
- Ensemble methods
- Transformers
- Embeddings
- Similarity search
- Information retrieval and reranking
- Practical experience with LLM applications, RAG, prompt engineering, and retrieval systems.
- Strong algorithmic and problem-solving skills.
- Hands-on experience with Python and standard Data Science / Machine Learning tools.
Good to Have
- Experience with vector databases and semantic search in production.
- Familiarity with Elasticsearch.
- Experience building or working with embedding pipelines.
- Experience evaluating search and retrieval systems.
- Exposure to e-commerce or product catalog data.
- Awareness of the current open-source LLM ecosystem.
