About Yardstick & BeeCurious
Yardstick Educational Initiatives is the organisation behind BeeCurious — a STEM education initiative dedicated to making learning engaging, experiential, and future-ready for school students. Through hands-on STEM programs, project-based learning experiences, and innovative educational solutions, BeeCurious helps students develop critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and innovation skills.
We partner with schools to deliver high-quality STEM learning experiences that complement classroom education and prepare students for the challenges of tomorrow. Our stakeholders include school leaders, principals, educators, students, and parents who share our vision of transforming learning through curiosity-driven education.
About the Role
We are looking for a candidate who can do two things exceptionally well: document science activities on screen with clarity and craft, and design precise technical assets that power our product manufacturing.
On the media side, you will plan, shoot, and edit procedure videos that walk students and teachers through every BeeCurious activity — clean, well-lit, clearly paced walkthroughs that make each kit easy to understand and exciting to use.
On the design side, you will create detailed 2D and 3D drawings for our in-house laser cutting machine and 3D printer — precise, efficient files that translate directly into the physical components that go into every BeeCurious kit.
This is a role for someone who is equally at home behind a camera and behind a design tool, who has a genuine feel for science and what makes it visually compelling, and who takes pride in work that is both creative and technically exact.
Key ResponsibilitiesVideo Production — Shoot & Edit
- Plan and execute procedure videos for BeeCurious activities — clear, step-by-step guides showing how to assemble and run each kit activity, shot and edited so that a student or teacher can follow along without any prior context.
- Set up and manage the video production environment: lighting, backdrop, camera positioning, and any other equipment needed to ensure every video is clean, neat, and visually polished — no distracting backgrounds or improvised setups.
- Edit videos with a strong sense of pacing and visual clarity — leveraging AI tools where they add value to speed up workflow or enhance output quality.
- Continuously improve production quality by experimenting with angles, techniques, and editing approaches.
Technical Design — Laser Cutting
- Create accurate 2D cutting files for the in-house laser cutting machine, primarily for MDF board components used in BeeCurious activity kits.
- Design with material efficiency as a core constraint: optimise component nesting within each MDF sheet to minimise waste and maximise yield.
- Ensure all drawings are dimensionally accurate, properly kerf-compensated, and production-ready before being sent to the machine.
- Collaborate with the activity design team to translate physical prototypes and sketches into precise cutting files.
Technical Design — 3D Printing & Illustration
- Design components for 3D printing: take physical measurements, create accurate models, and produce print-ready files.
- Create technical diagrams and vector illustrations in CorelDraw, Adobe Illustrator, or equivalent — for use in student worksheets, teacher guides, and product documentation.
- Support the broader product team with any visual design needs that require precision and technical accuracy.
Who You Are
- A visual storyteller who understands science You know that the best science video is not just well-shot — it is shot at the right moment, from the right angle, in a way that makes the viewer feel the phenomenon. You are curious about how things work, and that curiosity comes through in how you frame and capture them.
- As comfortable with a camera as with a design tool You do not think of yourself as only a videographer or only a designer — you are both, and you move between the two naturally. You bring the same attention to detail to a laser cutting file as you do to a video edit.
- Technically precise When you create a laser cutting file, a millimetre off means a component that does not fit. You understand this and you check your work. You think about material efficiency not because someone told you to, but because wasting material bothers you.
- Fluent with technology and eager to use AI You are comfortable with the tools of your craft and you actively seek out new ones — especially AI tools that can accelerate your workflow, improve output quality, or open up creative possibilities you could not otherwise access.
Essential Requirements
Applications that do not meet these criteria will not be considered.
- Video production: Demonstrated ability to shoot and edit high-quality video — not just editing, but knowing how to frame, light, and capture a shot. A portfolio or showreel is required.
- Design software: Working proficiency in CorelDraw, Adobe Illustrator, or equivalent vector design software — including the ability to create precise technical drawings.
- No specific degree requirement — skills and portfolio matter more than qualifications on paper.
Preferred
- Familiarity with laser cutting workflows, DXF/SVG file formats, or CNC design principles.
- Experience with 3D modelling or 3D printing design software.
- Comfort with AI-based tools for video editing, image generation, or design workflows.
- An interest in science, education, or STEM communication.
The Opportunity
Science is one of the most visually spectacular subjects in the world — and most students never see it that way. At BeeCurious, you will change that.
You will have a laser cutter, a 3D printer, a camera, and a table full of materials to work with. You will design the components that go into every kit students assemble, and you will shoot the videos that show them exactly how to bring those kits to life. Your work touches every activity, every student, every classroom we work with.
If you love making things look great and want to spend your career making science look the way it deserves to look, this is the role for you.
