OT & Anaesthesia Technician – Experienced Position

Reporting To: OT In-Charge / Anaesthetist
Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced and skilled OT & Anaesthesia Technician to support surgical and anaesthesia procedures by ensuring proper preparation of the Operation Theatre, surgical instruments, anaesthesia equipment, consumables and emergency equipment. The candidate will work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses and other OT staff to ensure safe, efficient and smooth functioning of surgical procedures.
Key Responsibilities1. Operation Theatre Preparation
- Prepare the OT before scheduled and emergency procedures.
- Ensure availability and proper functioning of OT equipment, instruments and surgical supplies.
- Check OT tables, lights, suction apparatus, cautery machines and other equipment before procedures.
- Maintain proper OT readiness as per the surgical schedule.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and sterile operating environment.
2. Anaesthesia Assistance
- Assist the Anaesthetist during induction, maintenance and recovery of anaesthesia.
- Prepare and arrange anaesthesia equipment, circuits, masks, airway devices and other required accessories.
- Check the anaesthesia machine, ventilator, oxygen supply, suction and other equipment before each procedure.
- Ensure availability of emergency drugs and anaesthesia-related consumables as instructed.
- Assist in airway management and patient positioning under the direction of the Anaesthetist.
- Monitor equipment during procedures and immediately report any malfunction.
3. Surgical Assistance
- Assist the surgical team during operative procedures as required.
- Arrange and provide instruments and consumables according to the procedure.
- Maintain proper handling and accountability of surgical instruments.
- Assist with specimen handling and transfer according to hospital protocol.
- Support the team during emergency and critical surgical procedures.
4. Infection Prevention & Sterilization
- Follow strict aseptic and infection-control practices.
- Ensure proper cleaning, disinfection and sterilization of instruments and OT equipment.
- Follow standard precautions and biomedical waste management procedures.
- Maintain OT cleanliness and environmental hygiene.
- Report any infection-control issues to the concerned supervisor.
5. Equipment & Inventory Management
- Maintain adequate stock of OT and anaesthesia consumables.
- Check expiry dates and proper storage of medicines and consumables.
- Maintain records of equipment, instruments and consumable usage.
- Report shortages, damages or equipment breakdowns promptly.
- Coordinate with CSSD, pharmacy and stores for timely availability of required items.
6. Patient Safety
- Assist in proper patient identification and preparation before surgery.
- Follow surgical safety and patient-safety protocols.
- Assist with safe positioning and transfer of patients.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Immediately report adverse events, equipment failures or safety concerns.
7. Emergency & On-Call Duties
- Provide technical support during emergency surgeries and procedures.
- Ensure emergency OT and anaesthesia equipment are readily available.
- Participate in emergency preparedness and resuscitation support as required.
- Be willing to work rotational shifts, night duties and on-call duties.
8. Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain OT records, checklists and equipment logs accurately.
- Complete procedure-related documentation as assigned.
- Follow hospital policies, SOPs and clinical protocols.
- Participate in audits, quality improvement activities and departmental training.
- Comply with NABH and other applicable hospital quality and safety standards.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma/B.Sc. in Operation Theatre & Anaesthesia Technology (OTT/OTAT) or equivalent recognized qualification.
- Valid professional registration, wherever applicable.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in a hospital Operation Theatre.
- Experience in handling anaesthesia equipment and surgical procedures is preferred.
