Job Summary
The Computer Lab Instructor will be responsible for managing and maintaining computer laboratory facilities, assisting faculty and students during practical sessions, ensuring the availability and proper functioning of hardware and software, and providing technical support for academic activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day operations of the computer laboratory.
- Assist faculty members in conducting practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, and examinations.
- Provide technical assistance to students during laboratory sessions.
- Ensure all computers, peripherals, networking equipment, and other lab resources are functional.
- Install, configure, update, and troubleshoot operating systems, software, applications, and drivers.
- Maintain proper records of laboratory equipment, software licenses, consumables, and inventory.
- Ensure required software and applications are installed before practical sessions.
- Monitor the proper use of laboratory systems and ensure compliance with institutional IT policies.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of hardware, network, printer, projector, and connectivity-related issues.
- Coordinate with the IT/Technical Support team for major hardware, software, or network problems.
- Maintain lab cleanliness, safety, security, and discipline.
- Support online examinations, computer-based tests, and other technology-enabled academic activities.
- Assist in data backup and basic system security practices as required.
- Maintain records of equipment breakdowns, repairs, maintenance, and replacements.
- Support faculty and students in using academic software and laboratory resources.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Lab In-charge or Head of Department.
Educational Qualification
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Applications, or a related field.
- Candidates with BCA, B.Sc. Computer Science/IT, B.Tech./BE Computer Science/IT, or equivalent qualifications may be considered.
- Diploma holders with relevant technical experience may also be considered.
Experience
- 0–3 years of relevant experience in computer lab management, technical support, IT support, or an educational institution.
- Freshers with strong technical knowledge and good communication skills may also be considered.
Required Technical Skills
- Good knowledge of Windows operating systems and basic Linux knowledge.
- Hardware and software troubleshooting.
- Basic networking concepts such as LAN, IP addressing, Wi-Fi, routers, and switches.
- Installation and configuration of software and drivers.
- Knowledge of MS Office and commonly used educational applications.
- Basic knowledge of computer security, antivirus, and data backup.
- Familiarity with printers, projectors, scanners, and other computer peripherals.
- Basic knowledge of programming languages and database applications is desirable.
