About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Financial Director to lead and oversee the financial strategy, planning, reporting, and performance of the organisation.
The Financial Director will be responsible for ensuring strong financial governance, accurate reporting, effective cash-flow management, and informed commercial decision-making. This role will work closely with senior management and department heads to drive profitability, improve operational efficiency, manage financial risks, and support the company's long-term growth.
The ideal candidate will be more than a traditional finance professional. We are looking for a strategic business partner who can analyse financial data, identify opportunities, challenge assumptions, and provide clear recommendations that directly influence business performance.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and implement the company's overall financial strategy in line with business objectives.
- Provide strategic financial advice to the CEO, Managing Director, and senior leadership team.
- Lead the finance function and ensure effective financial controls and processes are in place.
- Support business expansion, investment decisions, acquisitions, and other strategic initiatives.
- Develop financial models and scenario analysis to support key business decisions.
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Lead the annual budgeting and forecasting process.
- Prepare regular financial forecasts and long-term financial plans.
- Monitor actual performance against budgets and forecasts.
- Analyse profitability, costs, margins, cash flow, and financial trends.
- Provide meaningful insights and recommendations to improve business performance.
Financial Reporting
- Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Present financial performance and key business insights to senior management.
- Ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial data.
- Establish and monitor key financial and operational KPIs.
Cash Flow & Working Capital Management
- Manage and optimise the company's cash flow and working capital.
- Monitor receivables, payables, inventory, and cash conversion cycles.
- Develop strategies to improve cash generation and liquidity.
- Ensure effective credit control and debt management processes.
Commercial Finance
- Analyse pricing, margins, product profitability, and commercial performance.
- Support sales, procurement, operations, and other departments with financial insights.
- Evaluate major contracts, investments, projects, and business opportunities.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction and operational efficiencies.
- Challenge financial assumptions and ensure commercially sound decision-making.
Compliance, Risk & Governance
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, and legal requirements.
- Oversee the preparation of statutory accounts and financial records.
- Manage relationships with external auditors, accountants, banks, tax advisers, and other financial institutions.
- Establish and maintain robust internal controls.
- Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks.
Team Management
- Lead, manage, and develop the finance team.
- Establish clear objectives, processes, and performance standards.
- Build a high-performing and accountable finance function.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to finance staff.
Requirements
Essential
- Master’s degree in finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related discipline.
- Professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CPA, or equivalent.
- Significant experience in a senior finance or financial leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Proven experience in cash-flow and working-capital management.
- Strong commercial and strategic understanding of business finance.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial systems or ERP platforms.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Desirable
- Experience working in a fast-growing or multi-entity organisation.
- Experience in wholesale, retail, distribution, e-commerce, manufacturing, or FMCG environments.
- Experience managing finance teams and cross-functional projects.
- Experience with ERP, business intelligence, and financial reporting systems.
- Experience supporting business growth, restructuring, or expansion.
