We are undergoing a multi‑year modernization effort across our front, middle, and back‑office systems, leveraging cloud-native architectures, microservices, and now agentic AI engineering to accelerate delivery and reshape end‑to‑end payment flows.
Responsibilities:
Position Purpose
We are seeking a Java Backend Developer (Mid-Level) to contribute to the development of
our next-generation financial platform and the foundation of StoneX's global client platform
transformation.
In this role, you will build scalable and secure backend services using Java and Spring Boot,
collaborating closely with frontend developers, QA engineers, product managers, and senior
engineers to deliver high-quality financial solutions.
Primary Responsibilities
Backend Development
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
- Build RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code.
- Participate throughout the SDLC from design to deployment.
API Development & Integration
- Design and implement RESTful APIs following best practices.
- Collaborate with frontend teams to define API contracts and support BFF/API
integration.
- Implement validation, pagination, error handling, and secure API design.
- Integrate with internal and third-party services.
Performance & Reliability
- Develop scalable, low-latency backend services.
- Troubleshoot production issues and perform root cause analysis.
- Contribute to application stability and performance improvements.
Data & Messaging
- Work with relational databases and schema versioning tools.
- Develop event-driven solutions using Kafka (or similar messaging platforms).
Security & Compliance
- Follow secure patterns for handling sessions, tokens, and authenticated flows.
- Follow secure coding standards and regulatory requirements.
Cloud & Platform
- Work with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or Jenkins).
Observability
- Use monitoring and logging tools such as Datadog.
- Support production monitoring and incident investigations.
Ownership & Proactiveness
- Demonstrate strong ownership by driving tasks end-to-end, from requirements
clarification through development, testing, deployment, and production support
- Proactively identify risks, dependencies, gaps, and improvement opportunities beyond
the immediate scope of assigned Jira tickets.
- Think from a holistic customer and business perspective, considering the complete end
to-end workflow and system impact when designing and implementing solutions.
- Take initiative in collaborating across teams to resolve issues, remove blockers, and
ensure successful delivery of outcomes.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of professional Java backend development experience.
- Strong knowledge of Java 21 and Spring Boot 3.x.
- Experience building RESTful APIs and microservices.
- Experience with SQL databases.
- Experience with Kafka or RabbitMQ.
- Understanding of OAuth2/JWT.
- Experience with unit and integration testing (JUnit, Mockito, Testcontainers or similar).
- Experience with Git and Agile methodologies.
- Basic experience with Docker.
- Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to learn.
What Will Make You Stand Out
- Experience with Kubernetes and Azure or AWS.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of contract testing.
- Experience collaborating closely with frontend teams and BFF development.
- Experience building real-time or event-driven financial systems.
- Knowledge of monitoring and observability practices.
Education
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or
equivalent practical experience).
Working Environment
Hybrid (4 days in the office).
