About the Role
We are looking for a Linguistic Expert with strong knowledge of Phonetics and Semantics to create accurate, meaningful, and contextually appropriate alt text and image descriptions for educational and academic content.
The role involves reviewing images such as phonetic charts, speech sound diagrams, linguistic trees, semantic representations, symbols, and other language-related visuals, and converting the relevant visual information into clear textual descriptions.
Key Responsibilities
- Create accurate and concise alt text for Phonetics, Semantics, and broader Linguistics-related images.
- Develop detailed long descriptions for complex images where additional visual and contextual information needs to be captured.
- Interpret and describe IPA symbols, phonetic charts, articulatory diagrams, transcription formats, semantic relationships, linguistic structures, and terminology accurately.
- Ensure that descriptions accurately represent the meaning and purpose of the image, rather than simply describing its visual appearance.
- Use the surrounding text and context to ensure that the description is aligned with the content being presented.
- Perform quality checks on completed descriptions for grammar, terminology, consistency, and factual accuracy.
- Follow established alt-text and image-description guidelines, including character limits and formatting requirements.
- Collaborate with SMEs, content teams, and quality reviewers to resolve ambiguities and ensure consistent interpretation of linguistic content.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Degree or advanced qualification in Linguistics, Phonetics, Semantics, Language Studies, or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of:
- Phonetics and Phonology
- IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet)
- Articulatory phonetics
- Semantics and lexical relationships
- Syntax and linguistic structures
- Linguistic terminology and notation
- Strong written English skills with excellent grammar and attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret complex academic and technical linguistic content.
- Strong analytical and contextual reasoning skills.
- Ability to translate complex visual information into clear, structured, and meaningful textual descriptions.
- Familiarity with accessibility principles and alt-text best practices is preferred.
- Experience working with academic, educational, or publishing content would be an advantage.
Pay: ₹10,000.00 - ₹20,000.00 per month
