1. Administrative Duties
- Plan, organize, and supervise all nursing services in the hospital
- Develop and implement nursing policies and procedures
- Ensure compliance with hospital standards, legal requirements, and accreditation norms
- Prepare duty rosters and manage staffing schedules
- Maintain records and reports related to nursing services
2. Staff Management
- Recruit, train, and evaluate nursing staff
- Assign duties according to staff skills and patient needs
- Monitor performance and conduct appraisals
- Handle staff grievances and disciplinary actions
- Promote teamwork and a positive work environment
3. Patient Care Oversight
- Ensure high standards of patient care and safety
- Supervise nursing practices across all departments
- Monitor infection control practices and hygiene standards
- Address patient complaints related to nursing care
- Ensure proper documentation of patient care
4. Coordination & Communication
- Act as a link between doctors, nurses, and hospital administration
- Coordinate with other departments (lab, pharmacy, housekeeping, etc.)
- Participate in hospital committees and meetings
5. Training & Development
- Organize continuing education programs for nurses
- Conduct workshops, seminars, and in-service training
- Keep staff updated on new medical technologies and practices
6. Quality Assurance
- Implement quality improvement programs
- Conduct audits of nursing care
- Ensure adherence to standards like NABH/JCI (if applicable)
- Monitor patient outcomes and improve care processes
7. Resource Management
- Ensure availability of medical supplies and equipment
- Monitor proper use and maintenance of equipment
- Control budget related to nursing services
8. Legal & Ethical Responsibilities
- Ensure ethical nursing practices
- Maintain patient confidentiality
- Handle medico-legal cases appropriately
- Ensure proper documentation to avoid legal issues
Experience
- Usually 10–15 years of clinical experience in nursing
- Experience in administrative/management roles (e.g., Ward Sister, Nursing Supervisor)
- Experience in hospital management is highly valued
Additional / Preferred Qualifications
- Diploma or certification in Hospital Administration / Healthcare Management
- Training in nursing administration
- Knowledge of hospital policies, accreditation standards (NABH/JCI)
