In this role, we are looking for a Senior R&D Software Engineer – Control Library Development to join our Energy Industries Digital Organization. You will contribute to the design, development, validation, and lifecycle management of AC 800M Control Libraries that power ABB's industrial automation and safety systems.
Working as part of a collaborative Agile engineering team, you will develop reusable control software components, perform product validation, and ensure the delivery of robust, reliable, and standards-compliant automation solutions while partnering with Product Management, Architects, Safety Engineers, Quality Engineering, and global R&D teams.
This role is contributing to the Energy Industries – AC 800M Control Library Development, Testing, Validation & Lifecycle Support organization in Bangalore, India.

You will be mainly accountable for

Design, develop, maintain, and validate AC 800M Control Library components, reusable function blocks, communication interfaces, and engineering modules while ensuring compliance with ABB engineering, quality, and functional safety standards.

Perform impact analysis, product integration, regression testing, release validation, compatibility assessments, and root-cause analysis to ensure reliable, high-quality software throughout the product lifecycle.

Collaborate with Product Management, Architects, Safety Engineers, Quality Engineering, and global R&D teams to deliver customer-focused solutions while participating in technical reviews, release readiness activities, and continuous product improvements.

Drive engineering excellence by mentoring team members, adopting AI-assisted engineering tools, promoting reusable engineering practices, contributing to innovation initiatives, and continuously improving software quality, testing effectiveness, and engineering productivity.

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

6–10 years of experience in industrial automation, control systems, software development, testing, validation, or functional safety engineering.

Strong experience with ABB System 800xA, AC 800M, Control Builder M, IEC 61131-3 Structured Text, and control library development, testing, validation, and lifecycle management.

Knowledge of IEC 61508 Functional Safety, regression testing, integration testing, release validation, impact analysis, and product quality assurance methodologies is preferred.

Experience with Azure DevOps, Agile development practices, AI-assisted engineering tools, and modern software engineering workflows is considered an advantage.

Proven ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues, mentor engineers, contribute to reusable engineering solutions, and drive innovation across product development activities.

Strong analytical, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills with a commitment to engineering excellence, continuous learning, and delivering high-quality industrial software.
