Role Summary
We are seeking a Team Lead – Data Science & AI/ML on AWS who will be responsible for daily task execution oversight, delivery quality, SCRUM adherence, and team operations management for DS/AI/ML projects. This role is ideal for someone who understands data and cloud engineering, has moderate exposure to AI/ML projects, and is comfortable working in a structured, process-driven Agile setup, reporting directly to the Head of DS & AI/ML. This is not a development or mentoring role, nor a project management position. The role is about ensuring disciplined delivery, customer satisfaction, and internal process adherence – sticking to defined responsibilities and helping teams stay aligned with customer or projects commitments.
Key Responsibilities
Execution Oversight & Delivery Support
- Coordinate with DS/AI/ML developers to ensure tasks are tracked, executed on time, and meet required technical and quality standards.
- Review task definitions, code submissions, data flows, and artifacts before delivery checkpoints.
- Ensure all deliverables are technically correct, AWS-aligned, and adhere to organizational standards before final reviews.
- Get all reviews and final delivery approvals done through the DS/AI/ML Head.
- Deliveries and Milestones oriented customer engagement.
SCRUM & Process Adherence
- Manage daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives in line with SCRUM and Agile principles.
- Enforce task breakdown, tracking, and sprint discipline.
- Ensure that blockers are escalated, dependencies are tracked, and sprint velocity is maintained.
- Ensure that all internal documentation and reviews align with the organization’s process and operational excellence model.
Customer-Centric Approach
- Ensure customer deliverables are high-quality, clear, and timely – supporting excellent customer satisfaction.
- Align delivery expectations with DS/AI/ML head, acting as the first checkpoint before escalation or presentation to customers or stakeholders.
- Be aware of the customer context but do not act as a direct solution architect or customer consultant.
- Interact with customers strictly for delivery coordination, clarifications, and updates – not for architecture, consulting, or solutioning.
- Ensure delivery commitments, expectations, and clarifications are handled effectively for customer/stakeholders' satisfaction.
- Be an effective bridge between developers and customers/stakeholders.
Role Discipline
- Understand the boundaries of the role: avoid slipping into development, mentorship, or project management domains.
- Stick to delivery-focused leadership and internal execution tracking only.
- Follow all organizational structures and get key actions reviewed/approved by DS/AI/ML head
Required Skills and Qualifications
- 5–9 years of professional experience in roles related to data engineering, database development (any SQL and NoSQL), and data pipelines/solutions.
- Strong foundations of AWS services relevant to DS/AI/ML workflows: EC2, VPC, IAM, ALB, EKS/ECS, EFS, FSx, S3, Lambda, SageMaker, Glue, EMR, Redshift, Athena, Step Functions, MSK, Kinesis, MWAA, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB, CloudWatch, EventBridge etc.
- Strong foundations of AWS services, Dev-Ops and Cloud-Ops.
- Strong foundations of Containers and containerized solutions.
- Strong foundations of CICD, Git/GitHub, Programming Languages (Python is preferred), Linux and Scripting.
- Comfortable reading, validating, and organizing tasks involving AI/ML models, data pipelines, scripts, and infrastructure code.
- Proven experience working in a SCRUM/Agile delivery setup.
- Good understanding with tools like Jira for tasks management and deliveries.
- Demonstrated capability to organize team efforts, track quality, and deliver against technical timelines.
- Passion for customer satisfaction, delivery excellence, and process discipline.
What This Role Is Not
- Not a Development Role – You will not be expected to write code or build models.
- Not a Project Manager – Budgeting, planning, and customer-facing project management are not part of this role.
- Not a Mentor or Solution Guide – You are not expected to define architectures or guide junior developers technically.
