DCS Engineer – Job Description (Manufacturing Industry)
Role Overview
The DCS (Distributed Control System) Engineer is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, optimizing, and enhancing the plant's automation and control systems to ensure safe, reliable, and uninterrupted manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and troubleshoot DCS, PLC, SCADA, and HMI systems.
- Monitor plant automation performance and resolve system faults with minimum downtime.
- Configure, modify, and optimize control logic, graphics, alarms, and interlocks.
- Coordinate with production, electrical, instrumentation, and maintenance teams during breakdowns and shutdowns.
- Perform preventive maintenance and health checks of automation systems.
- Maintain system backups, software versions, and documentation.
- Analyze process trends and recommend automation improvements to increase productivity and reduce downtime.
- Support commissioning, expansion projects, and system upgrades.
- Ensure compliance with electrical, instrumentation, and automation safety standards.
- Coordinate with OEMs and vendors for technical support and annual maintenance activities.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of DCS, PLC, SCADA, HMI, Industrial Networks, and Process Automation.
- Understanding of instrumentation, sensors, transmitters, actuators, VFDs, and control valves.
- Ability to read P&ID, electrical drawings, loop diagrams, and control logic.
- Root cause analysis and troubleshooting skills.
- Good communication and cross-functional coordination.
- Knowledge of industrial cybersecurity is an added advantage.
Qualification
- B.E./B.Tech in Instrumentation Engineering, Electronics & Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, or Automation Engineering.
Experience
- 3–8 years of experience in manufacturing/process industries.
- Experience in chemical, mineral, cement, ceramics, power, FMCG, or continuous process plants preferred.
- Hands-on experience with systems such as Siemens PCS7, ABB 800xA, Honeywell Experion, Yokogawa Centum, Emerson DeltaV, Schneider, or Rockwell is preferred.

- DCS/PLC system uptime.
- Breakdown response and resolution time.
- Preventive maintenance compliance.
- Automation-related downtime reduction.
- Successful execution of automation projects and upgrades.
- System backup and documentation accuracy.
- Compliance with safety and audit requirements.
Working Conditions
- Manufacturing plant environment.
- Rotational shifts or on-call support during breakdowns and shutdowns.
- Occasional travel for commissioning or vendor coordination, if required.

Pay: ₹15,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
