Technical Lead – Design Thinking & Methodology (DTM)

1. Role Purpose
The Technical Lead – Design Thinking & Methodology (DTM) will be responsible for planning, delivering, and overseeing Design Thinking and Engineering Design Methodology training programmes at the Centre of Excellence in Design (D-CoE), IISc Bangalore.
The role involves teaching structured engineering design methodologies, mentoring multidisciplinary teams, supervising design projects, and coordinating technical programmes focused on innovation, product development, and real-world engineering problem-solving.
The Technical Lead will guide participants through the complete design process, including problem identification, user research, requirement engineering, ideation, concept evaluation, prototyping, simulation, and final design development.
2. Key Responsibilities2.1 Teaching, Training & Curriculum Execution
- Design and deliver structured training modules in Design Thinking and Engineering Design Methodology.
- Deliver lectures on design principles, user-centered design, engineering problem-solving, innovation, and product development.
- Conduct hands-on workshops in offline, hybrid, and online formats.
- Train participants in structured design tools, frameworks, and methodologies.
- Adapt technical content for learners from engineering, design, and multidisciplinary backgrounds.
- Lead project-based learning activities throughout the programme.
2.2 Intern & Project Supervision
- Mentor interns and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Guide participants working on product design, engineering design, innovation, and technology-development projects.
- Review project requirements, concepts, prototypes, simulations, and final design outputs.
- Provide technical and methodological feedback throughout the project lifecycle.
2.3 Collaboration & Outreach
- Collaborate with faculty members, programme coordinators, researchers, and technical staff.
- Engage with academic institutions, industry experts, startups, and innovation partners.
- Support outreach programmes, workshops, training initiatives, and capacity-building activities.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of D-CoE programmes.
- Perform other duties assigned by the organisation.
3. Required Skills & Competencies3.1 Technical Competencies
- Strong understanding of Design Thinking and Engineering Design Methodology.
- Knowledge of Product Design and Product Development processes.
- Experience with user research, problem definition, and requirements engineering.
- Understanding of ideation, concept generation, prototyping, testing, validation, and design iteration.
- Familiarity with Generative AI tools for engineering design, ideation, research, and design documentation.
- Ability to translate complex engineering and design concepts into practical learning experiences.

4. Qualifications & Experience
- Master's degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Innovation Design, or a closely related discipline.
- Prior professional experience in product design, engineering design, design consulting, innovation, R&D, or product development.
- Experience in teaching, technical training, mentoring, or facilitating engineering/design students is preferred.
- Experience in academic institutions, innovation centres, incubators, R&D organisations, or capacity-building programmes is desirable.
- Excellent presentation, facilitation, and communication skills.
- Maximum Age: 45 years, with applicable relaxation as per Government of India norms.
5. Reporting & Work Environment
- Reports to the designated Programme Coordinator or Centre Leadership.
- The role requires flexibility to support workshops, training programmes, outreach activities, and occasional weekend sessions.
- The position involves regular interaction with faculty, students, engineers, designers, industry professionals, and innovation partners.
- Accommodation on the IISc campus will not be provided.
7. Contract & General Conditions
- The appointment will initially be for one year.
- The contract may be renewed annually for up to a maximum of five years, subject to satisfactory performance and Institute requirements.
- Selection will be based on interviews conducted at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.

- Candidates may be required to work on weekends or holidays during workshops, training programmes, or special events.
Pay: ₹70,000.00 - ₹120,000.00 per month
