Hardware Design Engineer – Power Electronics
Bengaluru | Full-time | 5–8 years experience
We're a fast-paced hardware startup looking for a hands-on Hardware Design Engineer with strong expertise in Power Electronics to take full ownership of hardware development from concept to production.
Role Overview
You'll work on end-to-end design of power conversion systems, spanning requirements definition, hardware architecture, detailed circuit design, PCB layout, prototyping, validation, and supporting manufacturing. This role suits someone who thrives in a startup environment — comfortable working independently, taking technical ownership, and collaborating closely with mechanical design, embedded systems, firmware, sourcing, and production teams.
Responsibilities
- Own the complete hardware design cycle for power electronic products (AC-DC, DC-DC, chargers, adapters, inverters, etc.) from requirements gathering to mass production
- Develop circuit architecture, select topologies, and execute detailed schematic design for high-efficiency power stages
- Perform PCB layout design in Altium Designer with emphasis on EMI/EMC, thermal management, creepage/clearance, and manufacturability
- Conduct component selection and derating analysis for power semiconductors, magnetics, control ICs, and protection devices
- Validate magnetic components (transformers, inductors) and ensure optimized performance under thermal and electrical constraints
- Work on thermal modeling, heat sink design, and packaging trade-offs
- Validate designs through bench testing and debugging — efficiency, power quality, EMI/EMC compliance, and safety certifications
- Collaborate with firmware/embedded engineers to implement and tune control strategies (PFC, PWM, digital control loops)
- Interface with manufacturing and sourcing teams to support prototyping, testing, and volume production readiness
- Ensure designs meet reliability, safety, and regulatory standards (IEC, UL, BIS, etc.)
Requirements
- 5–8 years of experience in power electronics hardware design
- Proficiency in Altium Designer for PCB layout
- Strong understanding of AC-DC/DC-DC converter topologies and magnetics
- Experience with EMI/EMC compliance and safety certification processes
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced startup environment
