Reporting Line - General Manager - Office of CTO. Also aligned to the Engineering Practice leadership within the CIO for Technology organization.

Impact & contribution:
As Practice Lead – Engineering Practice (CBA India), you will be a senior leader accountable for elevating engineering standards, capability, and culture across our India engineering community.
You will shape how engineering excellence is defined, governed, and sustained at scale—ensuring CBA India continues to operate as a trusted, high ‑ performing global capability centre for the Group. This role goes beyond process ownership; it requires strategic leadership, sound judgement, and the ability to influence across geographies, functions, and senior leadership forums.
You will be a visible champion for engineers—driving strong talent outcomes, enabling clear and credible career pathways, and fostering an environment where engineers feel empowered, valued, and connected to the broader CommBank engineering community.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Provide strategic leadership for the Engineering Practice in CBA India, setting clear expectations for engineering quality, consistency, and professionalism.
Act as a trusted advisor and partner to senior technology and business leaders, aligning Engineering Practice outcomes with Group strategy and priorities.
Own and strengthen governance for critical engineering processes, including hiring, role definition, progression, and promotions—ensuring integrity, transparency, and consistently high standards.
Lead the evolution of Engineering Practice frameworks and processes, ensuring they remain scalable, fit for purpose, and aligned across all CommBank locations.
Sponsor engineering capability uplift by partnering with engineering leaders to embed skills development, training, and coaching aligned to the engineering skills framework.
Build and sustain a strong, inclusive engineering culture in India—one that values excellence, continuous improvement, accountability, and collaboration across regions.
Represent CBA India within the broader Engineering Practice community, contributing thought leadership and helping shape enterprise‑wide engineering direction.
Essential Skills:
We are interested in hearing from people who possess:
18+ years of experience in global technology delivery, partner management, IT Strategy, Agile Transformation or related technical field.
Proven experience in a senior engineering, capability, or practice leadership role within a complex technology environment.
Strong understanding of engineering job profiles, career frameworks, and the end‑to‑end engineering talent lifecycle.
Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to engage, influence, and align senior stakeholders across geographies.
A strategic mindset with a passion for raising standards, growing leaders, and driving sustainable engineering excellence.
Experience operating within Agile environments, including governance and tooling such as Jira and Confluence.
Demonstrated commercial acumen, with a strong risk and cost management mindset and sound decision‑making capability.
Education Qualifications: A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
