1. Job Purpose
To lead the Quality Control function for a precision machining plant. The role owns the QC function, establishes
process-based quality systems, minimizes internal/external defects, ensures adherence to engineering drawings
(GD&T;), and transitions the plant from an inspection-driven baseline to a sustainable Quality at Source culture.
2. Key Qualifications & Technical Competencies
- Experience: 12–18 years in precision engineering, CNC machining (turning, milling, grinding), or automotive/industrial
components.
- Leadership: Minimum 5 years in a supervisory role managing a complete QC team (Incoming, In-Process, and Final
Inspection).
- Technical Expertise: Robust ability to read engineering drawings, expert knowledge of GD&T;, and hands-on
metrology experience (CMM, profile projectors, specialized gauges).
- Quality Frameworks: Practical mastery of SPC, MSA/Gauge R&R;, process capability studies (Cp/Cpk, Pp/Ppk),
PFMEA, Control Plans, and Process Flows.
- Problem Solving: Proven expertise in structured root-cause analysis using 8D, 5 Why, Fishbone, Pareto, and CAPA.
- Systems & Standards: Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949; experience handling major OEM/customer
compliance audits.
- Preferred Values: Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, APQP/PPAP, First Article Inspection (FAIR), and supplier
development tracking.
3. Core Responsibilities
- Inspection Management: Oversee complete QC workflows across Incoming raw materials (forgings, castings),
In-Process machining, and Final Inspection.
- Metrology Assurance: Ensure precise use, programming, maintenance, and zero-overdue calibration of CMMs and
advanced measuring equipment.
- Process Quality Improvement: Implement robust statistical controls (SPC, MSA) to actively evaluate and improve
process capability metrics.
- Customer & Supplier Interface: Act as primary technical contact for customer quality issues, manage external
8D/CAPA validation, and drive structural improvement audits across key sub-contracted vendors (e.g., heat treatment,
plating).
- Quality Culture & Systems: Maintain corporate QMS documentation, champion internal audits, and run ongoing
competency development or drawing-interpretation training for operators and inspectors.
