Lithium-ion Battery Pack Manufacturing Lead
About the Role
We are setting up a lithium-ion battery pack assembly business focused on EV and energy storage applications. We are looking for a hands-on technical person who can help us design the product, select machinery, define the assembly process, set up quality systems, and de-risk the manufacturing line.
This is not a pure R&D role. We are looking for someone with practical experience in lithium-ion battery pack assembly, process setup, production, testing, validation, and machinery selection.
About the Founder
You will be working directly with the founder, an IIM Ahmedabad and McKinsey alumnus, who is building the venture from ground up. The role offers the opportunity to work closely with the founder from the early stages of business setup, including product selection, machinery evaluation, vendor development, process design, and pilot manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Define the product roadmap for lithium-ion battery packs across EV and/or BESS applications
- Prepare the end-to-end manufacturing process flow, including cell inward QC, grading/sorting, welding, BMS integration, enclosure assembly, testing, aging, and dispatch
- Evaluate and recommend required machinery for a semi-automatic battery pack assembly line
- Compare machinery vendors across India and overseas, including technical capability, cost, service support, scalability, and suitability for our use case
- Design quality control checkpoints across incoming cells, in-process assembly, and final pack testing
- Define testing protocols for battery packs, including electrical, thermal, safety, reliability, and end-of-line testing
- Support vendor selection for cells, BMS, nickel strips/busbars, harnesses, enclosures, insulation material, testing equipment, and assembly machinery
- Create SOPs for battery pack assembly, handling, testing, storage, and safety
- Advise on safety and compliance requirements relevant to lithium-ion battery packs
- Help plan the manpower, technician training, line layout, capex, and commissioning roadmap for the assembly facility
Required Experience
- 4-8 years of experience in lithium-ion battery packs, EV batteries, BESS, power electronics, electrical manufacturing, or battery testing
- Hands-on experience with lithium-ion battery pack assembly, manufacturing, testing, process engineering, or validation
- Practical understanding of cell grading/sorting, spot welding or laser welding, BMS integration, insulation, busbars/nickel strips, pack enclosure design, and end-of-line testing
- Experience working with battery pack production lines, pilot lines, or manufacturing setups
- Ability to evaluate machinery such as cell testers, sorting machines, welding machines, BMS testers, aging equipment, EOL testers, and safety systems
- Understanding of lithium-ion battery safety risks, including short circuits, thermal runaway, BMS failures, welding defects, insulation failures, and field reliability issues
- Ability to work hands-on with founders, vendors, technicians, and production teams
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has worked hands-on in lithium-ion battery pack assembly or EV/BESS battery manufacturing and can independently guide a new manufacturing setup from product choice to machinery selection, process design, quality control, and pilot production.
We are looking for someone practical, detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and capable of challenging assumptions rather than giving generic advice.
Pay: ₹600,000.00 - ₹1,200,000.00 per year
