Job Summary
The OT Incharge is responsible for the overall management and smooth functioning of the Operation Theatre. The role includes supervising OT staff, ensuring adherence to infection prevention and control practices, maintaining OT equipment and supplies, coordinating surgical schedules, ensuring patient safety, and ensuring compliance with NABH standards and hospital policies.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operation Theatre Management
- Supervise the day-to-day functioning of all Operation Theatres.
- Ensure OT readiness before every surgical procedure.
- Coordinate elective and emergency surgeries.
- Monitor OT utilization and efficiency.
- Ensure smooth workflow between surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, and support staff.
2. Staff Management
- Prepare and maintain duty rosters for OT staff.
- Supervise OT nurses, OT technicians, and housekeeping staff.
- Ensure adequate staffing for all shifts.
- Conduct orientation and on-the-job training for new employees.
- Evaluate staff performance and provide regular feedback.
3. Patient Safety
- Ensure correct patient identification before surgery.
- Ensure implementation of the WHO Surgical Safety Checklist.
- Verify informed consent before surgery.
- Maintain patient dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
- Monitor patient transfer to and from the OT safely.
4. Infection Prevention & Control
- Ensure strict aseptic techniques are followed.
- Monitor OT cleaning, fumigation, and sterilization practices.
- Coordinate with the CSSD for sterile instrument availability.
- Ensure biomedical waste is segregated and disposed of according to hospital policy.
- Monitor hand hygiene compliance among OT personnel.
5. Equipment & Inventory Management
- Ensure availability of surgical instruments, implants, consumables, and emergency drugs.
- Monitor OT equipment functionality.
- Report equipment breakdowns promptly.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance with the Biomedical Engineering Department.
- Maintain stock levels and prevent shortages.
6. Documentation
- Maintain OT registers and records.
- Ensure complete documentation of all surgical procedures.
- Maintain implant and instrument traceability records.
- Record equipment maintenance logs.
- Prepare monthly departmental reports.
7. Coordination
- Coordinate with:
- Surgeons
- Anaesthesiologists
- ICU
- Wards
- Emergency Department
- CSSD
- Biomedical Department
- Housekeeping
- Ensure timely availability of patients, instruments, implants, and support services.
8. Quality & NABH Compliance
- Ensure compliance with NABH standards.
- Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives.
- Conduct OT audits and internal inspections.
- Monitor OT quality indicators.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies and SOPs.
9. Emergency Preparedness
- Ensure emergency drugs and crash carts are always ready.
- Conduct mock drills.
- Ensure staff are trained in fire safety, BLS, and emergency response.
10. Training & Education
- Conduct regular OT training sessions.
- Train staff on infection control, patient safety, and new surgical techniques.
- Participate in CMEs and quality improvement activities.
Qualifications
- B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing / GNM.
- OT specialization or certification preferred.
- Valid State Nursing Council registration.
Experience
- Minimum 5–10 years of Operation Theatre experience.
- At least 2–3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Experience in NABH-accredited hospitals is preferred.

Working Conditions

- Allocate OT staff duties.
- Coordinate OT scheduling.
- Verify OT readiness before surgery.
- Recommend procurement of OT equipment and consumables.
- Report disciplinary issues to Nursing Administration.

Pay: ₹20,655.74 - ₹40,816.38 per month
