A mechanical fitter assembles, installs, maintains, and repairs industrial machinery and mechanical equipment. They are vital in manufacturing and construction, tasked with ensuring equipment runs efficiently and safely by interpreting technical blueprints and using specialized hand and power tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Equipment Assembly: Fabricate, assemble, and install structural and mechanical components from raw materials or pre-manufactured parts.
- Maintenance & Repair: Diagnose operational issues and conduct routine or emergency repairs on machinery such as pumps, valves, compressors, and conveyors.
- Blueprint Reading: Analyze complex engineering drawings and specification manuals to determine the exact requirements for construction or assembly.
- Precision Fitting: Perform drilling, grinding, cutting, and alignment work to ensure moving parts operate seamlessly without friction or excess wear.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere to strict workplace safety protocols (such as OSHA or cGMP), ensuring all equipment is safely isolated during maintenance and handed over securely.
