About the Role
The Technical Lead – Design Thinking & Methodology (DTM) will be responsible for planning, delivering, and overseeing Design Thinking and Engineering Design Methodology training programmes at the Centre of Excellence in Design (D-CoE), IISc Bangalore.
The role involves delivering structured technical training, mentoring multidisciplinary teams, supervising engineering and product design projects, and coordinating programmes focused on innovation, product development, and real-world problem-solving.
The candidate will guide participants through the complete design process, including problem identification, user research, requirement engineering, ideation, concept evaluation, simulation, prototyping, and final design development.
Key Responsibilities1. Teaching & Training
- Design and deliver structured training modules on Design Thinking and Engineering Design Methodology.
- Conduct lectures on design principles, user-centred design, engineering problem-solving, innovation, and product development.
- Conduct hands-on workshops in offline, hybrid, and online formats.
- Train participants in structured design tools, frameworks, and methodologies.
- Adapt technical content for learners from engineering, design, and multidisciplinary backgrounds.
- Lead project-based learning activities throughout the programme.
2. Project & Intern Mentoring
- Mentor interns, students, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Guide teams working on product design, engineering design, innovation, and problem-solving projects.
- Review project progress, design decisions, prototypes, and technical documentation.
- Provide structured feedback and help teams improve their design solutions.
3. Design Methodology & Technical Guidance
- Guide participants through problem identification, user research, requirements definition, ideation, concept development, evaluation, and final design.
- Support the application of engineering design methodologies to real-world challenges.
- Encourage evidence-based decision-making and iterative design practices.
- Introduce relevant Generative AI tools for engineering design, ideation, research, and documentation.
4. Collaboration & Outreach
- Collaborate with faculty members, programme coordinators, technical staff, and industry experts.
- Support academic–industry collaboration and innovation initiatives.
- Engage with academic institutions, industry partners, and innovation ecosystems.
- Contribute to workshops, outreach programmes, and capacity-building initiatives.
- Support programme planning, execution, and continuous improvement.

Educational Qualification
- Master's degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Innovation Design, or a related discipline.
- Candidates with closely related qualifications and strong relevant experience may also be considered, subject to organisational requirements.

Age Limit
Maximum 45 years, with applicable relaxation as per Government of India norms.
Reporting & Work Environment
- Reports to the designated Programme Coordinator or Centre Leadership.
- Full-time contractual position.
- Requires flexibility to support workshops, training programmes, outreach activities, and occasional weekend sessions.
- Candidates may be required to work on weekends or holidays during workshops, special programmes, or events.
- Accommodation on the IISc campus will not be provided.
Compensation
₹70,000 – ₹1,20,000 per month
The final compensation will be determined based on qualifications, relevant experience, interview performance, and overall suitability.
Contract Duration
- Initial appointment: 1 year
- Renewable annually based on satisfactory performance and organisational requirements.
- Maximum tenure: 5 years, subject to applicable terms and conditions.
Selection Process
Selection will be based on an interview conducted at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.
