About the Role
We are looking for a talented Script Writer to join our content production team and write engaging, well-researched scripts for long-form YouTube documentaries, primarily in the true crime and investigative documentary niche.
The ideal candidate is someone who understands that a great documentary is more than just presenting facts. You should be able to turn research into a compelling story that keeps viewers watching from the opening hook to the final conclusion.
What You'll Do
- Research true crime cases, criminal investigations, court proceedings, and related topics.
- Write engaging scripts for 20–60+ minute YouTube documentaries.
- Build strong openings and hooks that immediately capture the viewer's attention.
- Structure stories for strong audience retention and pacing.
- Present complex events and timelines in a clear, easy-to-follow way.
- Develop suspense and curiosity without unnecessarily sensationalizing the story.
- Verify important facts using reliable sources.
- Incorporate relevant quotes, interviews, courtroom statements, evidence, and source material where appropriate.
- Collaborate with editors and the production team to ensure the script works well with available footage, graphics, archival material, and voiceover.
- Rewrite and refine scripts based on editorial feedback.
What We're Looking For
- Strong storytelling and narrative-writing skills.
- Excellent English writing and grammar.
- Ability to conduct deep online research.
- Strong attention to detail and factual accuracy.
- Understanding of YouTube storytelling and audience retention.
- Ability to create compelling hooks, transitions, and cliffhangers.
- Comfortable working with sensitive and disturbing subject matter.
- Ability to follow a specific writing style and production brief.
- Reliable communication and ability to meet deadlines.
- Experience writing true crime, documentary, investigative, or YouTube content is highly preferred.
Bonus If You Have
- Previous experience writing scripts for established YouTube channels.
- Understanding of YouTube analytics and retention.
- Experience working with editors or video production teams.
- Knowledge of courtroom proceedings, police investigations, or criminal cases.
- Experience writing long-form documentary scripts.
