Position Summary
The Senior Design Engineer – Mechanical will be responsible for leading mechanical design activities, including concept development, detailed engineering, and technical coordination for complex engineering projects such as rolling stock systems, propulsion systems, electrical equipment manufacturing, and industrial retrofit solutions.
The role involves end-to-end ownership of mechanical design, from understanding customer requirements through engineering release, while ensuring that solutions are robust, manufacturable, safe, and aligned with project objectives. The candidate will also guide junior engineers and coordinate with cross-functional teams for smooth project execution.
Key Responsibilities1. Design Ownership & Concept Development
- Study customer technical specifications and understand project scope.
- Review existing system constraints, site conditions, and vehicle limitations.
- Develop initial concepts and system architecture.
- Prepare preliminary GA drawings and layout concepts.
- Perform equipment placement and layout planning.
- Carry out basic calculations related to space, load, CG, and mounting feasibility.
- Identify design risks, constraints, and suitable mitigation approaches.
- Coordinate with electrical, control, and propulsion teams for interface requirements.
- Define design philosophy, integration approach, and key design assumptions.
2. Detailed Engineering Supervision
- Guide Design Engineers in preparing 3D models, fabrication drawings, and assembly drawings.
- Review GA, layout, installation, and manufacturing drawings.
- Ensure proper equipment packaging, mounting structures, and system integration.
- Validate designs for manufacturability, serviceability, safety, and ease of maintenance.
- Ensure design outputs meet project requirements and engineering standards.
3. Technical Coordination
- Coordinate with electrical, control, propulsion, and system engineering teams for interface alignment.
- Work closely with QA, manufacturing, and field teams during project execution.
- Support vendor discussions and provide technical clarifications.
- Ensure cross-functional design compatibility.
- Lead technical issue resolution and coordinate corrective actions.
4. Design Validation & Review
- Review engineering calculations related to load, CG, and basic stress considerations.
- Coordinate with CAE engineers for FEA, fatigue analysis, and other validation activities.
- Participate in design reviews and technical approval processes.
- Ensure compliance with applicable engineering standards, specifications, and project requirements.
- Review design risks and ensure appropriate validation before engineering release.
5. Manufacturing & Site Support
- Provide technical support during fabrication, assembly, and installation.
- Resolve shop-floor issues related to fabrication, fitment, welding, and assembly.
- Support installation and commissioning teams during execution.
- Investigate field issues and provide practical engineering solutions.
- Incorporate field feedback into design improvements and future revisions.
6. Documentation & Engineering Deliverables
- Ensure preparation and release of design documents, drawings, and BOMs.
- Maintain proper drawing revision control and documentation standards.
- Prepare calculation sheets, technical notes, and design justifications.
- Ensure engineering deliverables are complete, accurate, and released on time.
- Maintain proper records of design changes and technical decisions.
7. Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Guide and mentor Design Engineers and junior team members.
- Review team members' design outputs and provide technical guidance.
- Ensure adherence to design processes, standards, and best practices.
- Support skill development and technical growth of team members.
- Promote a practical, quality-focused, and execution-oriented engineering culture.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering – Mandatory.
- Master’s Degree in Mechanical / Design Engineering – Preferred.
Required Experience
- 7–12 years of experience in mechanical design and engineering.
- Experience in heavy engineering, 3D modeling, vehicle systems/dynamics, or industrial equipment.
- Strong exposure to fabrication-intensive engineering projects.
- Experience in system integration and equipment layout.
- Proven experience in design ownership and team coordination.
Required Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of mechanical design and structural engineering.
- Experience in equipment layout and system integration.
- Knowledge of fabrication, welding, and manufacturing processes.
- Good understanding of GD&T and engineering drawings.
- Exposure to FEA coordination and design validation processes.
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, or equivalent.
- Understanding of mechanical calculations related to load, mounting, clearance, and structural considerations.
- Ability to interpret customer specifications and convert requirements into practical engineering solutions.

Core Expectation

Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹75,000.00 per month
