A Senior Blood Bank Technician in a hospital ensures the safe collection, testing, processing, and storage of blood products, while supervising junior staff and maintaining rigorous quality control. They perform complex blood grouping, compatibility testing, antibody identification, and manage inventory to support clinical transfusion needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Technical Expertise: Perform and oversee blood grouping, cross-matching, antibody screening, and compatibility testing.
- Operational Management: Manage blood donor recruitment, collection procedures, and proper storage of blood components.
- Quality & Compliance: Ensure adherence to blood bank safety protocols, equipment calibration, and regulatory standards.
- Supervision & Training: Supervise and train junior technicians and phlebotomists.
- Inventory Control: Manage blood inventory levels and ensure timely issuance of blood products.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of laboratory tests, donor information, and blood inventory in accordance with hospital policies.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field; certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or equivalent.
- Experience: Several years of experience working in a hospital blood bank or clinical laboratory setting.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in operating blood bank analyzers, centrifuges, and information systems.
- Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and excellent communication skills.
