Responsibilities
- Collect, process, and prepare blood specimens using aseptic techniques and venipuncture procedures to ensure sample integrity.
- Perform blood typing, crossmatching, antibody screening, and compatibility testing with precision to guarantee safe transfusions.
- Conduct laboratory assays such as ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay), PCR (polymerase chain reaction), flow cytometry, and immunoassays for diagnostic and research purposes.
- Manage laboratory data efficiently through Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), ensuring accurate documentation of test results and specimen tracking.
- Maintain strict adherence to laboratory protocols, including RNA extraction, DNA isolation, and blood banking procedures, while observing safety standards and aseptic techniques.
- Assist in clinical trial sample processing, specimen collection, and data analysis to support ongoing research projects.
- Monitor vital signs during sample collection when necessary, applying physiology knowledge to optimize patient comfort and safety in hospital settings.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a clinical or research laboratory environment with a focus on blood banking or transfusion services.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory techniques including blood sampling, venipuncture, specimen processing, and laboratory procedures.
- Proficiency with immunoassays such as ELISA, PCR, flow cytometry, and other molecular biology techniques.
- Familiarity with laboratory management systems (LIMS) and data management skills for accurate record keeping.
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology, anatomy related to blood components, and physiology relevant to blood banking.
- Hands-on experience with clinical laboratory testing methods used in hospital settings or blood banks.
