- Role summary
- The Senior Merchandiser will lead end-to-end merchandising for export accounts, owning product development, costing, production follow-up, quality and on-time shipment for Earthbags Export Private Limited’s jute, cotton and mixed-fabric bag lines. The role combines buyer-facing coordination, vendor management, and internal cross-functional leadership to meet margin, quality and delivery targets.
Key responsibilities
- End-to-end order management: manage orders from PO receipt through shipment, including sample approvals, production milestones, packing and documentation.
- Product development: translate buyer tech-packs and design briefs into accurate pre-production samples, coordinate fit/golden/sample approvals, and follow up on sample revisions.
- Costing and pricing: prepare accurate cost sheets, negotiate material and production prices with suppliers, and recommend pricing to maximize profitability while remaining competitive.
- Production monitoring: visit and liaise with factories, ensure raw materials/trims are in-house on time, track production schedules (T&A), and resolve bottlenecks to meet delivery timelines.
- Quality assurance: ensure finished goods meet buyer specifications and testing parameters; coordinate corrective action for quality issues and manage final inspection / shipment sample approvals.
- Vendor and supplier management: source and maintain relationships with mills, trim suppliers and contract factories; evaluate vendors on capacity, quality and lead time.
- Buyer communication: serve as primary contact for assigned buyers or buying houses, respond to queries, submit required documentation, and coordinate approvals and pre-shipment checks.
- Documentation & reporting: maintain order files, shipment reports, sample tracking logs, T&A sheets and other merchandising records; coordinate with logistics and export teams for timely shipments.
Required qualifications
- Education: Diploma/Graduate in Fashion Technology, Textile/ Apparel, or equivalent; NIFT or comparable qualification preferred.
- Experience: 4–8 years in apparel or packaging merchandising with at least some export-house experience; experience with jute or woven bag production is an advantage.
- Technical skills: strong knowledge of fabrics (jute/cotton), trims, sewing/finishing processes, garment/bag construction, and testing parameters.
- Tools: advanced Excel skills and comfort with merchandising tracking tools and basic ERP or order-tracking systems.
- Soft skills: excellent communication and negotiation skills, strong vendor-management and problem-solving ability, and a results-oriented, team-led approach.
Preferred attributes
- Prior experience handling European or US buyers and their compliance/testing requirements.
- Proven track record of meeting delivery and quality KPIs in an export environment.
- Familiarity with sustainability or natural-fibre supply chains (jute, cotton) is desirable.
