Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Research Design & Production Engineer to join our 3D Printer team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechatronics engineering, hands-on experience in product design and development, and a passion for additive manufacturing technologies. This role involves designing, developing, testing, and optimizing 3D printers and their subsystems while supporting prototype development and production processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Research and develop innovative solutions for 3D printing systems and technologies.
- Design mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical components for 3D printers.
- Develop and validate prototypes through testing, analysis, and performance evaluation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical, electronics, firmware, and software engineers.
- Optimize existing printer designs for performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost.
- Prepare engineering drawings, BOMs, assembly instructions, and technical documentation.
- Support production teams during pilot builds and product launches.
- Troubleshoot design and manufacturing issues and implement corrective actions.
- Evaluate new materials, components, and manufacturing processes.
- Conduct failure analysis and recommend design improvements.
- Ensure compliance with quality standards and engineering best practices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in research, design, or production engineering, preferably in 3D printing or automation products.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design, electronics integration, and motion control systems.
- Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or Creo.
- Knowledge of additive manufacturing technologies including FDM, SLA, or similar processes.
- Familiarity with stepper motors, sensors, controllers, and embedded systems.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, DFM/DFA principles, and production workflows.
- Ability to analyze engineering problems and implement practical solutions.
- Excellent documentation, communication, and teamwork skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with firmware such as Marlin or Klipper.
- Knowledge of G-code, machine calibration, and printer tuning.
- Experience with rapid prototyping and product validation.
- Familiarity with Python, C/C++, or embedded programming is an advantage.
- Understanding of quality tools such as FMEA, Root Cause Analysis, and Six Sigma methodologies.
