Role Summary
The Sr. Safety Manager will lead the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) function for the project, setting up and implementing robust safety systems from pre-construction through early execution and stabilization of site operations. You will be responsible for ensuring full compliance with statutory requirements, company safety policies, and best practices, while building a strong safety culture among staff and contractors. This role has direct impact on reducing incidents, improving safety compliance, and enabling smooth, uninterrupted project execution.Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and periodically update the project-specific HSE plan, including risk assessments (JSA/JHA), method statement reviews, and emergency response plans during pre-construction and early execution.
- Plan and conduct safety inductions, toolbox talks, and periodic training programs for staff and contractor workforce (100+ workers), ensuring strict PPE compliance and behavioral safety reinforcement.
- Lead daily/weekly site safety inspections and formal audits covering working at height, scaffolding, formwork systems, crane and lifting operations, excavation/deep basement works, housekeeping, and traffic management; issue NCRs and track closure.
- Ensure full compliance with Indian safety regulations, IS codes, National Building Code provisions, BOCW Act, and Mumbai/local statutory requirements; prepare, maintain, and periodically review the project HSE Manual and related documentation.
- Coordinate closely with project managers, planning, QA/QC, engineering, and contractor teams to integrate safety into construction planning, sequencing, method statements, and work permits.
- Lead incident and near-miss reporting, conduct root cause analysis, and drive implementation of corrective and preventive actions with proper documentation and communication across the project.
- Manage and mentor the site safety team, monitor performance, drive engagement and motivation, and support safety policy review and implementation across all Avant projects as required.
Essential requirements
- 6-11 years of experience in construction safety management, with at least 4+ years on high-rise residential projects (20+ floors) in India

Bonus qualifications
- Additional qualification in Industrial Safety/Construction Safety (e.g., PDIS, ADIS, NEBOSH IGC or equivalent)
- Prior experience working directly with a real estate developer or reputed Grade-A contractor on high-rise projects in Mumbai or other metros
- Exposure to ISO 45001 implementation, audits, and documentation on construction projects
- Experience in digital safety reporting tools or mobile-based HSE inspection/observation systems
- Ability to communicate safety requirements in Hindi, Marathi, and English to effectively manage a diverse workforce
