Structural Steel Modeler – SR
Position Overview
The Structural Steel Modeler – SR is responsible for developing accurate and detailed 3D models of structural steel projects using SDS2. This role supports the DetailingEngineering Operations department by ensuring that all modeled elements and assemblies meet project specifications, fabrication standards, and client requirements. The Modeler collaborates with Detailers, Checkers, Project Managers, and Engineers to coordinate modeling tasks, resolve technical issues, and maintain project schedules. The position requires a comprehensive understanding of structural steel systems, connection detailing, and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities

3D Modeling and Detailing

Develop precise 3D models of structural steel components, connections, and assemblies in SDS2 in accordance with design drawings and specifications.

Generate fabrication-ready information to support shop drawing and erection drawing production.

Apply revisions and updates in response to RFIs, ECNs, or client direction.

Ensure constructability and accuracy of modeled elements.

Coordination and Communication

Collaborate with Project Managers, Detailers, Checkers, and Engineers to clarify design intent and resolve technical challenges.

Participate in project coordination meetings and provide updates on modeling progress.

Support transfer of model data to downstream detailing and checking activities.

Communicate proactively to maintain consistency across project teams.

Quality and Standards Compliance

Perform self-checks to validate dimensions, member alignments, and connection details.

Ensure all modeling complies with JITECH standards, project requirements, and applicable codes.

Identify and report potential conflicts or inconsistencies between disciplines.

Workflow and Process Discipline

Adhere to established workflows, project templates, and SDS2 settings.

Maintain accurate records of model changes and version control.

Contribute to process improvements to enhance modeling accuracy and efficiency.

Technical Development

Stay current with SDS2 features and best practices.

Support standardization of modeling practices across the department.

Participate in internal training and knowledge-sharing sessions.
Qualifications
-
Technical diploma or Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience in structural steel modeling.

Minimum 2 years of experience in structural steel modeling using SDS2 (2024 or newer preferred).

Working knowledge of Specifications for Structural Steel Buildings ANSI/AISC 360-22.

Working knowledge of Structural Welding Code – Steel AWS D1.1:2020.

Working knowledge of AWS welding practices and procedures, including shop and erection equipment and practices.

Working knowledge of the International Building Code related to structural steel buildings.

Proficiency in SDS2, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Planner.

Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings.

Excellent English writing and communication abilities.
