An Operation Theatre (OT) Technician is responsible for preparing and maintaining the operation theatre, assisting surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses during surgical procedures, ensuring the availability and functionality of surgical instruments and equipment, and maintaining a sterile environment to support safe and effective patient care.
Key ResponsibilitiesPre-Operative Duties
- Prepare the operation theatre before surgical procedures.
- Sterilize and arrange surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Check the functionality of OT equipment, including monitors, suction machines, cautery units, and anesthesia machines.
- Assist in patient preparation and positioning for surgery.
- Ensure all necessary consumables and instruments are available.
Intra-Operative Duties
- Assist surgeons, anesthetists, and nursing staff during surgical procedures.
- Pass instruments and supplies as required during surgery.
- Maintain sterile techniques and infection control standards.
- Monitor and manage surgical instruments and equipment during procedures.
- Handle surgical specimens according to hospital protocols.
Post-Operative Duties
- Clean and disinfect the operation theatre after procedures.
- Collect, count, and prepare instruments for sterilization.
- Ensure proper disposal of biomedical waste.
- Maintain records of surgical instruments, equipment usage, and inventory.
- Assist in transferring patients to recovery areas.
Equipment Management
- Maintain OT equipment and report malfunctions promptly.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs.
- Monitor inventory levels and request supplies when required.
Safety and Compliance
- Adhere to hospital policies, infection control protocols, and safety standards.
- Follow biomedical waste management guidelines.
- Participate in emergency response procedures within the OT.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Operation Theatre Technology (OTT) or related field.
- Knowledge of surgical instruments, sterilization techniques, and infection control practices.
Experience
- Fresher or 2-4 years of experience in a hospital operation theatre.
- Experience in handling OT equipment and assisting in various surgical specialties is preferred.
Skills Required
- Knowledge of surgical procedures and OT protocols.
- Sterilization and infection control expertise.
- Basic computer knowledge for record maintenance.
