1. JOB PURPOSE

We are looking for Database Administrator (DBA) specializing in MySQL and PostgreSQL who is responsible for the health, security, and performance of an organization’s open-source database systems. This role blends high-level architectural planning with day-to-day maintenance to ensure data remains accessible and protected.
2.PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Administration & Maintenance: Installing, configuring, and upgrading database instances on Linux or cloud platforms like AWS RDS or Google Cloud SQL.
Performance Tuning: Monitoring database health and optimizing queries, indexing, and configurations using tools like EXPLAIN and slow query logs.
Data Security: Implementing user access controls, authentication, and encryption to protect sensitive data.
High Availability & Disaster Recovery: Designing and testing backup/restore procedures and managing replication or clustering to ensure maximum uptime.
Capacity Planning: Forecasting storage and resource needs to ensure the database can scale as data volumes grow.
3.MAJOR CHALLENGES

- Performance Bottlenecks: Fixing poorly written queries and managing complex schema updates on live production systems without causing downtime is a daily hurdle.
- Massive Scaling: Handling rapid data growth requires constantly managing complex sharding, partitioning, and resource allocation.
- Balancing the distinct internal behaviors of both MySQL and PostgreSQL requiring deep, specialized knowledge for each system.
- Data Loss Risks: The role carries extreme accountability for protecting data security and ensuring multi-terabyte backups actually work.

- Architecture Modifications: Proposing major architectural shifts.
- High-Cost Investments: Approvals for significant budget increases for new enterprise tooling, storage expansion, or cloud infrastructure.
- Extended Maintenance Windows: Scheduling critical database upgrades or migrations that require intentional, long-term application downtime.
- Active Data Breaches: Escalating immediate security compromises, data leaks, or unresolvable ransomware attacks directly to leadership.
- Data Retention Policies: Changing corporate data compliance rules, purging historical records, or modifying legal archival periods.
- SLA Adjustments: Negotiating lower Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) or Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) due to system limits.

6. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Educational Qualifications
a)Qualifications
Minimum Qualification required: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Strong knowledge of cloud computing platforms, such as AWS, OCI, or Google Cloud.
Database Systems: Mastery of MySQL and PostgreSQL internals including storage and memory management.
Scripting: Proficiency in Shell (Bash) or Python to automate routine tasks and database deployments.
Infrastructure: Experience with Linux server administration, networking, and cloud services (e.g., AWS Aurora, Google Cloud SQL Database for PostgreSQL/MySQL).
Advanced Concepts: Knowledge of replication, sharding, and partitioning for large-scale production database
Industry certification is plus.
