Job Description: Pedicure Specialist / Foot Care Assistant
Department: Clinical Foot Care / Diabetic Foot Care
Location: CDFC Hospital
Reporting To: Podiatrist / Foot Care Nurse / Clinic Manager
Role Summary
The Pedicure Specialist is responsible for providing safe, hygienic, and patient-friendly foot care services, especially for patients requiring basic foot hygiene and preventive care. The role must follow strict infection-control protocols and work under clinical supervision, particularly when handling diabetic or high-risk foot patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform basic pedicure and foot hygiene services as per hospital protocol.
- Clean, trim, and file nails safely, avoiding injury to the skin or nail bed.
- Remove superficial dead skin only when permitted and clinically safe.
- Assist in foot soaking, cleaning, drying, moisturizing, and patient comfort care.
- Identify and report warning signs such as wounds, cuts, swelling, redness, fungal infection, ingrown nails, corns, calluses, discharge, or pain.
- Avoid treating high-risk conditions independently and immediately escalate to the podiatrist or nurse.
- Maintain strict sterilization and disinfection of instruments, chairs, trays, and work surfaces.
- Use personal protective equipment appropriately.
- Maintain patient privacy, comfort, and dignity during procedures.
- Educate patients on basic foot hygiene, footwear care, nail care, and daily foot inspection.
- Maintain procedure records and document observations when required.
- Ensure proper disposal of biomedical waste as per hospital policy.
- Support the clinical team in patient flow, preparation, and post-procedure care.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of basic pedicure and foot care techniques.
- Strong hygiene and infection-control awareness.
- Ability to handle patients gently and patiently.
- Good observation skills to identify foot abnormalities.
- Good communication skills in Tamil and/or English.
- Ability to follow instructions from clinical staff.
- Professional behavior and patient-centered attitude.
Qualification
- Certificate or diploma in pedicure, cosmetology, beauty therapy, or foot care preferred.
- Prior experience in salon pedicure, hospital foot care, diabetic foot care, or podiatry clinic preferred.
- Training in infection control and diabetic foot safety will be an added advantage.
Experience
Preferred: 1–2 years of experience in pedicure, foot care, or related patient-care services.
Freshers may be considered if they are willing to undergo hospital-based training.
Important Safety Note
The Pedicure Specialist must not independently treat diabetic foot ulcers, wounds, infected nails, deep cracks, bleeding areas, severe calluses, or ingrown nails. Such cases must be referred immediately to the clinical team.
